The Birds

I remember seeing the movie The Birds as a kid.  It had to be one of the scariest movies I had ever seen.  I live in the part of the country where bird migration funnels through on their way to and from South America.  There are times of the year where trees are filled to capacity and power lines sag from the weight.  This photo doesn't even begin to show how many birds are in this area to spend the night.  When they take flight, it darkens the sky.

Lee,

I remember the movie myself, and you're so right, it was scary.

Your photo is actually kind of creepy. It sort of reminds me of trees I saw recently that were full of bats haning upside down sleeping during the day. They ate all the leaves off the trees so the bats were clearly visible. Also creepy imho.

Your recollection of the movie changed my perception of the picture.  I love seeing birds, but that movie gave me the creeps as a kid.  It looks pretty hokey today, but it was scary in its time.

We see some large flocks come through the Seattle area, bit nothing like you describe.  We have actually seen a group of bird dive bomb my father-in-law.  Only seen this happen once, but there was a lot of birds that day. Can't recall what kind of bird, but they probably were crows.

Hi Lee... we see scenes like the one in your pictures around here pretty regularly at certain time of the year.  They are loud and definitely a bit scary!

Hi Lee,

We do see the swarms of small black birds, do not know what they are called.  They seem to sometimes move as one living organism.

You have captured the concept in this picture.

Thank you so much for all  of your help in my decision making for an add on lens for my Nikon.  I did finally order a lens that is much smaller than the one I started out looking at and with a higher f stop.  Compromised because I didn't want to lug around 5 pounds of lens, but I may come back to that decision later and buy it anyway.  The one that I ordered will let me play around with higher zoom and can't be too bad of a mess up at less than $500.

You were extremely helpful and I do soooo appreciate it.

I love this photo. We get this too. Absolutely hysterical sometimes. Have you noticed how they tend to space themselves out evenly on the lines? Then they all scoot down and the little falls off and flies to the end of the line and the whole thing happens again. So funny!
