Tools of the trade, choosing the correct tools for the job is often confusing in today's fast changing real estate world. My tools are pretty straight forward. Doing my job without them is often close to impossible. I have found the following tools to be invaluable when doing my day to day business:

  • ActiveRain
  • Laptop
  • Camera
  • Blackberry
  • Personal Website
  • Personal Email Address
  • Realbird
  • Flashlight
  • Measuring Tape

I have clients coming in today to look at land, plus a home that the prospective builder is in the process of finishing. It rained pretty good yesterday and there is lots of brush on the property. What are the tools I will use today?????

  • A GOOD PAIR OF BOOTS!
  • A heavy pair of jeans
  • Tick Spray

Boots

Now I admit, I am trying to decide which pair of boots to wear. Either pair, I will have to clean the boots. They have been worn in the cow barn, need I say more?

Yep, the proper tools make the job so much easier.

As for your cilents - if they don't like "eau de cow barn", they shouldn't be looking at land, anyway!  :-)

Andrea when it comes to mud, style points get you nowhere. Watch your client's wife show up with Pradas and you're wearing rubber boots with cow pie residue.

You nnow I gotta say I don't miss showing property in snow, rain or ice.  My first 5 years I lived in Flagstaff (northern AZ) and they also had high winds in the spring.  Now that's when you need  a  total face mask as a tool - the dust and sand was horrible.

This is a very creative and fun post!    I didn't expect the boots on tiny bit!  Love it!  I'm with Debi - the tall ones look like they'd cover just about anything you encounter.

Add a screw driver, a cresent wrench, a hammer, post hole diggers or auger, flash drive .... and I don't know what a realbird is ! You won't need them today, but on another day!

Andrea - I would have picked the boots to the left, they will be easier to clean and least likely to retain the essence of "cow barn." Just my humble opinion. Hope the showings went well.

Roy, these and more, LOL. Thank you!

Mike, especially since both places we saw today are next to farms, LOL!

Caren, it really does. I have seen an agent or two try to walk land in heels.... not for me, LOL. We were out in the briars and the brambles and the stickers today!

VB, it was 70 here today! Those buggers are around for a long time.

Ed, LOL, she didn't come this time. The BUILDER was totally dressed wrong, I think he met us right after church!

Debi, it was a bit muddy, and very full of stickers, LOL.

Hannah, nope, no UGGS here! I am just not an UGGS type of person. UGGS and cow pies don't mix well!

Anna Banana, I have quite the foot attire for winter months. Fashionista I ain't, LOL. I have more boots, I have yellow rain slickers, heck, I even have rain pants, LOL. What can I say....

Oh, Liz, good point. I have a printer, and I use it all the time. Oops, LOL. Thank you!

Marilyn, I don't put up my own signs, but the rest is in my jeep! Well, check out realbird.com. You will be surprised!

Judy, I hate those boots, LOL. I have these other boots that are like overboots, left over from milking days. I left them at the farm, but believe me, if I had them I would wear those any day. And boy do they look bad!

And FYI, just before walking out the door I spied my Ariat boots in the corner. So, on the feet they went! I forgot all about them.

Hi Andrea ~ The tool on your list that leaped out at me is "personal email address". I'm a johnnie-come-lately to that one and am just struggling with making the switch now and stressing over the "right" email address - not to mention all the changes in practices - current, future, and past that I need to address (no pun intended) as far as my email address goes.

I too vote for the boots on the left.

Liz, you do need to address the address, LOL. I am adamant about that. I won't lecture here though, LOL.

Andrea those tools are essential for survival.  I think you should go for the tall boots, lots of ticks still around.   Here is hoping you will be getting an offer.

Andrea, this is a great list of tools....I was wearng my wellies this past week with all the rain we had. I know ticks are especially bad in the summer but I'm still taking them off my dog even in November so you can't be too careful.

I despise ticks - especially the little 'seed' ticks. They seem to collect in those nice warm spots that make you wonder, of all the places, why there...

Well, I woke up in the middle of the night with a tiny little tick on my neck. I got it out but... it sure doesn't look good this morning and my neck is sore, the site of the tick bite is killing me. Guess I have to call the doctor this morning. :(

Jennifer, I think we will pull something together.

George, LOL, get your mind out of the gutter!

Debbie, as I said above, I did pick up a tick. :(

Jesse, you have to be so careful.

Michael, this tick that got me was a tiny thing, but oh so painful!

All great tools of the trade Andrea.

No matter what profession you're in, the right tools are essential to success.

By the way, I'd go with the smaller boots.

Craig, LOL, I found a more appealing pair on my way out the door, sans cow pies!

Jim, toys is more like it, LOL. I admit it. We get to play with pretty cool toys.

VB, mosquitos are all gone, but the ticks are giving their last hurrah!
