I Street Bridge Sacramento by Myrl Jeffcoat

In addition to pure raw and perfect nature scenes showing little touch by human hand, I have an appreciation for structures that demonstrate a certain iconic flavor - bridges often contribute to that fabric.

The old cantilever swing bridge pictured above is known to Sacramentans as the I Street Bridge, which connects Sacramento County to Yolo County.  It is in close proximity to Old Sacramento, and connects to West Sacramento a few blocks from Raley Field - Home of the Sacramento RiverCats Baseball Team.  The bridge was built in 1911.

I take pictures for the purpose of remembering fond times.  I do not impose copyright restrictions on this photo, so you may feel free to use, or distribute as you wish.  However, should you need a Real Estate Professional in the Greater Sacramento area, I hope that you will contact me by email or by visiting my website www.myrljeffcoat.com - Thank You!

Oh my goodness what a beautiful scene!  How glorious it would be to float in a small boat beneath the bridge for a little fall picnic! Thanks for posting!

Hi Myrl, What a cool old bridge! What is about them that captivate us so much, I wonder? Is the settings they are ususally found in?   Nice shot!

Hi Myrl.  Is it a railroad bridge or a double-decker for trains and cars?

Karin - That whole area of the river is neat.  It bridges glorious Old Sacramento, and the Sacramento River Walk area.  There are places to picnic too.

Mike - I'm definitely a bridge person. . .Just love them!

Kim - I'm glad the photo was to your liking!

Sharon -It is so true about each era having a distinct style.  When I was in London, I especially noticed that.  On the same river within a few miles, there was the old London Tower Bridge with it's iconic beauty.  And then the modern design of the Millennium Bridge, designed and built for the new millennium.  It was a study in contrasts.

Debi - Bridges are symbols for transition to me!  They transport one from one side to the other, and bring the imagination along with it.

Richard -It's used by trains and aautomobiles.  The swing part of the bridge hasn't operated in many years.  It doesn't matter because large boats do not go beyond it, as the river is shallow and not easily navigated.

Hi Myrl,

I love old bridges and one of my favorites is Clifton Suspension Bridge which was designed by Brunel and which was built in 1864 and is still in use today.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful photograph.

It looks more like an old rail bridge rather than a car bridge. This is something you would see in an old movie.

And to think this one is from 1911 and still being used. That is a true testament to the care given such a beautiful piece of history.

Hi Myrl,

Another wonderful photo. I find bridges fascinating and the Golden gate is one of my favorites of course.

Did you know the fear of bridges is called gephyrophobia???  Just thought I would drop that in there. LOL

Myrl,

That was built back in the time when bridges had looks and character. Thanks for showing us this one. :)
