Speechless Sunday(Almost)--Do I hear a Gobble Gobble??

I have never been a hunter but buying an acreage home in Anoka County does present the perfect hunting opportunity now and then. Sure we see a deer run through the yard (or in front of our car) now and then but sometimes the missed opportunities are just GOLDEN! Just a few days ago, I heard quite a commotion in my backyard. Just a few weeks prior to Thanksgiving and we have a rafter of TURKEYS make a visit. We counted at least 40 of them. Quite an opportunity to take a shot or two...with my camera! Enjoy!

FYI--A rafter is the correct term for a group or flock of turkeys.

Those are great shots Teri.  We ocassionally see wild turkeys in the more rural areas, but not where I live.

Teri, great shot. We occasionally see wild turkeys especially around the corn fields, but never a group as large as that. Thanks for sharing

Kathryn--When we moved to Ham Lake 12 years ago, I saw one turkey in two years. Now we see them all the time. The population has really expanded.

Richard--I haven't seen them since I took the picture, They seemed to have survived my shooting though! :)

Jeff--We aren't incredibly rural but just enough for wild turkeys to feel safe.

Ed--This was the first time I had seen such a large group together too. We had 18 in our yard last year but this was a huge bunch of birds! And they were all fluffing their feathers like they were mating or something. Very cool to watch.

Debi--Just what I was thinking...If I could shoot something besides a camera, they could have been toast!

Jim&Maria--I am certain that many of my neighbors would have been shooting with something besides a Canon. :)

Cynthia--Not really...The thought of plucking all those feathers when you can get one from the store for 40-70 cents a pound took away any thoughts of a wild bird for Thanksgiving!

Marzena--You and me both! Sounds yummy and fattening!

Teri,

These are some nice up-close shots. In your photos, notice how much they resemble the bark. :)
