Here's a magic trick for stagers

How many of you find scraping price tags off art, glassware, lamps and everything else, an aggravating and time consuming part of staging?  How Many many of you have experienced the frustration of finding the perfect lamp, then as you are trying to remove all those super sticky tags that say"Do not remove under penalty of law" as only half of it comes off and the rest is permanently stuck to the cord along with 2 inches of adhesive that attracts all the stray Styrofoam from the very box it just came out of?

Hang on because help is on the way.  I have discovered a completely natural product that is non-aerosol and removes  pesky adhesive like magic.  What's even better,  it smells wonderful!  Believe it or not it is a product called "Pure Citrus" and it is an air freshener.  You read it right, it's an air freshener.  This stuff is amazing, with the best part being the time saved from scraping  price tags and manufacturing labels off your inventory.  I found mine at Home Depot in the cleaning supply isle.  I have included their web address so you can order it if you are unable to find it in the store.  The label on the packaging states some warnings as to what it should not come into contact with, so you should test it in a hidden spot first.  My experience with the product has been very good and so far nothing I have used it on has been damaged by it.

Happy Staging,

Trish

This story is a bit crude, but it applies to the use of Pure Citrus.  In a former business I had, I had a partner who would have to use the restroom quite frequently.  He would wear out the orange Pure Citrus, to say the least.

We would wait until he came out of the restroom and someone would invariably say, "Whew, someone shit an orange."

That's my experience with Pure Citrus. :)

Trish ~ Thanks for this great tip -- this stuff is FANTASTIC!  Not only does it have a really fresh citrus scent, but I tried it on stickers and they just melted away like magic!  Thanks so much for this great tip!

I've used this before, it smells soo good too, it reminds me of the orange groves in Florida!  Now I have an excuse to buy more.  Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the tip, Trisha.  Have you ever tried "Goo Gone".  It works well too.

Wow I have this stuff- I bought it for my son's room (diaper pail) I am going to try it right now. It takes me hours to remove those stickers. I usually make it the new stagers job as a way of testing their patience. Now all our stagings will smell like oranges.

Thanks for the tip.  I hate when that happens.  I hung a picture recently and I could not get the sticker off completely.  I have used Goo Gone.  It also works great, but you you can't spray it in the air for that just staged clean scent.

Trish,

I will have to give this a try. Especially if it smells good what is not to love?

Oh Todd, I am laughing!!!!

We here in Canada, have a thing called GOO GONE, same, smells like orange. its just orange oil I believe. Works like a charm to remove sticky residue from price tags.

Great tip, Trisha. I have used Goo Gone, but it is very toxic and the warning label is enough to scare me from using it much. Pure Citrus sound so much better.

Thanks for the tip!!  I have the hardest time with those stickers, too!!!  This is definitely worth a shot!!!

Thanks for the tip....I too have used Goo Gone, and it's pretty slimey and hard to clean up...but it does work.  Will buy this though and give it a spray.

Todd...You made me LOL...it's what us girls think sometimes, but you said it best!

Thanks Trish another item to add to the tool bin.  I don't like the scent of Goo Gone.  I think it lingers too long and has a toxic scent.  Used some on a paint droplet on my deck and I can still smell it three days later, AND the paint remains.

Pure Citrus is on the shopping list.

Thx for this great tip.  I hate those stickers!  My graphic to key in below to send this comment is "LEMON" so I'm thinking my omen is to try the lemon scent first!

This is great to know!  I've used something similar, but it wasn't in a spray form!  Can't wait to buy some!

Thank You Todd for the gentleman's take on Pure Citrus and what it can do for odors in the men's room.

Kathy and Sandy,

I have used Goo Gone before and I do find it to be hard to completely remove.  I too am concerned with the fact that it has dangerous chemicals that I would rather not come into contact with.

Thanks again,

Trish

Todd...you have me LOL!  I rented office space once and there was a similar situation.  But this guy used LOTS of VANILLA spray.  To this day, I can't handle the smell of vanilla incense, spray, candles, or anything!

Trish, I am off to Home Depot tomorrow.  I have used Goo Gone but it still takes a lot of work to completely remove the sticker and residue.  If this works as well as you say it does - I will owe you big time.  Betty

Trish ~ I've just discovered another use for this great product.  Did you know that it takes stains out of carpets?  I staged a house last weekend with a carpet stain that the professional carpet cleaners couldn't get out.  My client uses Pure Citrus regularly and he tried it on the stain....it got most of it out!

06/30/2007 01:24 PM by Maureen Bray ~ Room Solutions Staging, Portland OR (Room Solutions ~ Staging that Sells Homes!)

Trisha,

THANK YOU so much for this tip!!!!  I have used Pure Citrus for years to remove kitty/puppy scents - especially those from a litter box.  Well.....I am just thrilled that I there is another use for this amazing product as I am always "scraping" off those tags/gummy spots with my fingernails/soap/water.  This week, I used your tip (and Pure Citrus) on a mirror and it worked and is SO easy!  I am so excited that I am going to list this as the staging tip of the month in my monthly newsletter -- I hope you do not mind!

My manicure and I thank you for this fabulous info!!!

Wow - this sounds great. I have used Goo Gone and Goof Off but I like the idea that this is natural. Thanks for the tip Trisha.

Trisha - thank-you for the useful tip.  I will add this to my toolbox.  And, Maureen, thank you as well for another useful tip.  I have a friend who does carpet cleaning who will absolutely cringe when I mention this as products with chemicals or soaps leave a residue that attracts dirt and eventually you have "black" marks on the carpet.  Nevertheless, I shall give it a try.

Trisha,

Thanks for the info. yes, it is very difficult to remove stickers form glass for example framed glass  pictures. I have  wasted time and energy on the removal of gooey residue left behind from these stickers. looking forward to using it and saving time.  Thanks for the post.

Great Idea.

WOW,

Maureen, I had no idea that this would rmove stains from carpets safely.  I have a couple stains on my own carpets and can't wait to try it out.

Temple,

thanks for sharing your experience with the sticker on your mirror.  It truly does melt them away.  I too, have a greatful manicurist as a result.

Trisha,

I remember reading this original post, but didn't make note of the product.  I actually researched it this morning before heading out to finish a staging job.  I've got limited time today and I need a quick fix for cleaning the remnants of price tags off my prints.  I'lll be popping into Home Depot on my way to the house and I will let you know how my experience goes.

Thanks for the tip!!

Trish,

Just wanted to let you know that I used this amazing product on a vacant staging yesterday....the house had a LOT of cat pee in the carpeting and even on some walls, and it worked like a charm and not only scenting the room but also cleaning most of the stain!

Bought this at Home Depot today on your recommendation - now to get at those stickers.....

I'm so bummed...was at Home Depot today and couldn't find this product.  Is it in a special section of the store?  I checked everywhere that I could think of and no one could help me.  Picked up another "orange product" but I want the real thing.  HELP!

Trisha, thank you so much for the website info.  You need to tell the tire story here or on another blog.  This stuff is amazing.  Do you use the aerosol or the pump spray?

07/17/2007 09:51 PM by Ginger Foust- Dream Interior Redesign & Staging (Dream Interior Redesign & Staging by Ginger Foust)

Hi Trish,

Thanks for the tip, I also use goo gone it works great too!

07/17/2007 10:22 PM by Penny Schoenbeck, AZ Home Styling (AZ Home Styling & Redesign)

I use a small hair blow dryer.  I blow hot air on the sticker for about 30 seconds & start peeling it gently off the surface.  The stickers / price tag unpeels like butter off the surface without leaving any glue on the surface.

Give it a shot... I hope it works for you as great as it does for me.

p.s ~ I carry around a blow dryer in my tool bucket.  Looks kind of funny, but it works!

Great tip.  I love any suggestion for a product that can double-duty.  Now I will buy Pure Citrus as my bathroom air freshener and use it to remove sticky adhesives.  It sounds safer than Goo Gone and will smell much better.

07/24/2007 11:12 AM by Sharon Kreighbaum - www.stagedmakeovers.com (Staged Makeovers)

Well, I'm on my way to Home Depot to get Pure Citrus. :-) I like that it's an air freshener as well. I've been using "Painter's Pal" by Goo Gone, also available at Home Depot or Lowes. It's a spray gel that's a wiz at removing those adhesive stickers from almost anything (including clothes). It's also wonderful at removing paint splatters and paint on areas where it shouldn't be.  It has a pleasant odor, too.

Fantastic tip and I'm so excited that it's all natural.  Labels, carpet, cat pee... wow!  Definitely a magic trick I'll be adding to my toolbox - thank you for sharing with all of us!

02/17/2008 12:16 AM by Lisa Sherman ~ Interior Aura... Home Staging & Redesign - Salem, Oregon (Interior Aura)

Sveta, You can order this product online if you cannot find it on the shelves in Canada.

Cathty and Lisa, This product is fantastic as I have said before.  I have truly been able to use it on most everything.  I have a couple precausions I would like to pass along.  The citrus oil in this product is very concentrated and it will remove your manicure in a heartbeat.  A little unknown side effect, it took me a couple extra appointments with my manicurist to figure it out.  The next item that I have discovered with this product is that it is not compatible with some plastics.  It will etch it.  Beware of clear plastic especially.

Other than what I have mentioned above this is a fabulous product and I still love it.

02/17/2008 09:41 PM by Trisha Lane/ Simple Inspiration Portland Oregon (Simple Inspiration Home Staging)

I've been using it for years and similar to Todd's story, my children claim that the smell of citrus now reminds them of the bathroom, not in a good way!  I continue to love the smell of citrus and really appreciate these wonderful hints.
