Santa Claus Parade - Toronto, November 15, 2009

The longest running children's parade in the World made its way through our City streets this afternoon. The streets were very crowded as usual, with little kids ranging in age from 6 months to 85 years young. Everyone was thrilled to see Santa and his reindeer, and all the other 'animals' running loose on our streets.

Here are a few 'moments' from today's parade....

Toronto's Santa Claus Parade started in 1913, when Santa was actually pulled by live reindeer, which had been brought in from Labrador, specifically for the parade.

By 1950, the Parade was the largest in North America and was first televised in 1952. Today, it is televised all over North America, and as far as New Zealand.

haha, wow! That is quite a parade! I have never seen Polar Bears and penguins marching in a Parade, lol! Though, I am from Texas...

Sylvie, Those floats look amazing. You guys really get into this and I have to say, it made me want to go see the parade. Cool clowns especially! Terry must have loved those. ;)

Hi Jo, yes, the weather was great. It was actually a pretty nice weekend.

Carole, I have about 150 photos... it was hard to pick. I think you would have loved it.

Terry, our parade is always around the middle of November. It's a good break between Thanksgiving and Christmas.... it's like a little party.

Chris, I'm glad you enjoyed the Royal Winter Fair. The kids probably loved it - they usually do.

Fred, no, you didn't see me in there, unless I was wearing a clown costume. :P

I somehow missed those - they're fantastic pics - it's been a long time since I've been to a Santa Parade....:-(

Liz, I hadn't been in years, but I was in need of cheering up myself this time, so I knew it couldn't hurt. I hate crowds, but I survived.
