THAT'S THE MARINES

By

A MARINE AND HIS WIFE, on their way to the base commissary, came upon a recruit standing at attention by a mail-pickup station. Plastered to the young man's forehead were a number of postage stamps. Asked about his situation, the recruit responded, "Sir, my drill instructor says I'm such a foul-up that he's mailing me home to my momma."

My husband started out his military career as a marine.  I know a drill Sargent would do something like this.  One time when my husband missed picking up a cigarette butt on policing duty the drill Sargent put a bucket over my husbands head and made him smoke a pack of cigarettes.  It's funny now but wasn't so funny then.

Roberta  Did that make him give up smoking?  That seems harsh!  But I know how pissed I get when someone leaves butts in my driveway.  Maybe Ill get some buckets.

This reminds me of a mail-call story in Aviation Officer Candidate School (AOCS).  We are Navy, but were trained by Marine DI's.  Anway, during our sacred, once a week, mail call, our DI was handing out letters.  One unlucky fellow had a smart-ass friend send him a piece of mail.  On the back of the envelope it said: "To the DI:  Another hundred push-ups!"

The DI made him do 100 push-ups.  Then he made him re-read the back of the envelope again.  Rinse, wash, repeat...

LOL LOL  Yep that's the Marines.  I told my son when he was in High school that if he decided he wanted to go into the service that I wanted him to go into the Marines.  He asked me why.  I said because they are trained to survive and there isn't any training anywhere in the world better than what they get in the Marines.  I still beieve that.

Thanks for your story and for stopping by to comment.  whorah!

Certainly!  It was fairly traumatic at the time (75% wash-out rate), but the memories...
