TONE IT DOWN - BRIGHT COLORS TURN OFF BUYERS

By
Home Stager with Salazar Staging & Custom Interiors

Bright colors are highly personalized and can leave many buyers cold.  In this first picture all you see is RED~

Before Paint Living Room Salazar Staging

So we neutralized with paint and changed out the dated mirror for a fresh new look that will appeal to more buyers

After Salazar Staging painted

This entryway was the first thing buyers saw when entering the home.  This could stop buyers in their tracks !

Before Paint Living Room Salazar Staging

With  more neutral paint colors, buyers can enter the home without pause!

After Salazar Staging painted

This bright kitchen looks dated and confused!

before Salazar staging

Toning down the paint, removing the wallpaper , and bringing in the butcher block completely changed the look of the kitchen

After Salazar Staging

Neutralizing colors, whether that includes removing wallpaper or just repainting, is one of the least expensive and most dramatic ways to update rooms.

Wow - the kitchen is the most dramatic after!  Paint is an inexpensive way to make a property more appealing to buyers.  Not just the neutral colors, but the thought of it being fresh, new and clean.

Always great advice for sellers, Mel, especially for first-time sellers who might have been through the process before. And I love that you illustrate all of your advice with large photos that really show off the issues better than words could ever hope to.

The Better it Looks the Better it Sells

Hi Melody,

I have a before picture on the house I just listed and that looks a lot like the red fireplace wall. Fortunately my seller panted it out for me. That kitchen is nothing short of a miracle.

Thanks everyone for the comments, and Kathy thanks for the featured post.

I wish we could get all our sellers to realize the impact paint makes.  I put together a 'paint' portfolio with just dozens of before/afters where paint has been the amazing turning point in a project.  This has helped me show clients the importance of this.

Mel,

I love the difference in each of the rooms!!!  You really did a great job with the RED living room.  It really did hurt your eyes when you looked at it.  Great work as always Mel.  I wish you were back here in Marin County I would love to work with you!!!
