Eco-All-Stars Round Table Challenge #1

By
Real Estate Agent with The Overton Group, LLC Pitt & Carteret County NC 213723 Broker

Hello Eco-All-Stars....I have a new Eco-Challenge for us as a group!

I was contacted by a consumer, Donna, who is asking for advise. What a better way to start off a Weekly Challenge I want to call the Round Table Challenge!  The idea of this challenge is to answer questions from our public audience. Challenge #1 is a question that came to me as a result of the following post. Please take time to review it and then lets put our Green Thinking Caps on and find a way to assist Donna with her idea, again, sparked from our forum!

Eco Perspective to Being Boxed-In A Featured Localism Post- and turned into a powerful discussion

My homework is to ask Caleb , our community builder, if we can somehow generate a Q&A icon for just our specific group for Eco-Consumer Questions..

Subject: container house

Hi Michele,
I share your enthusiasm for container homes. Until 2001, I thought I wanted to live in a 3,000 sq ft "dream home" I designed. But, after surviving an accidental gunshot wound to my face and neck (and losing our retirement), I realized a 700 sq ft yurt would saffice...What keeps me going now is my future career, and our 28 acres of land in Florida we have sacrificed many years for. My delemma, is we cannot afford the $15,000 "impact fees". I refuse to build a home to suit my neighbors (who trespassed and cut down our 80 yr old trees). And most importantly, I WILL NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THE DESTRUCTION, POLUTION, AND WASTING OF OUR NATURAL RESOURCES AND WILDLIFE HABITAT. With your real estate knowledge, I was hoping you might steer me in the right direction as how to make a container home feasible in a residential neighborhood that had been zone agriculture when we bought. Any tid-bits of info is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and efforts.
God Bless, Donna

Michele, regarding the Q&A.  You've got a good idea here.  I really like it.  I'm going to present it to the team.  However please know that we do have a lot going on right now so this will take a bit.

Michele~

Given the market demand for health-built homes in sustainable communities and the huge interest in conservation developments, I think the service we could provide through Active Rain and Localism.com would be a benefit for all concerned. What a great idea! I'll give ya' a call shortly...

Do we have a Florida Realtor in our group that can give is guidance on her zoning ?  Also, I will ask Donna to give me more on her land being ag/ residential. It must be one or the other.

I know we have a great lenders able to give 2cents on this as well....likeMary Bigelow and jeff Belonger .

Michele - I like the idea of the Q & A. Not only will this benefit the consumer but from the professional end it helps us identify what issues concern the consumers. Great ideas!
