World HandsI think I am a two stepper thinker finally on this observation.

Sifting Through Infinity Takes Brainpower and Heart.

Think of all these social media connections you may develop for your business or for your personal life. You have 1,000 friends on Facebook, 500 people follow you on Twitter, on LinkedIn you have 200 associates. Your "connections" are certainly making you connected much better than the six degrees of freedom from EVERYONE on the planet. But the tradeoff is

         TIME.

Which relates to the QUALITY of the connection. Thats where your brainpower and heart come in. You can't comment back to everyone or touch them all each day. Prioritize what is important to you with the connection.

And the heart part? Sometimes even a connection that isn't a real top business transaction or close "real" personal friend is crying out for your help, a little attention, a deeper connection, or PERHAPS today is their day for you to be the giver of love to them in your life.

The explosion of information was daunting enough for us all and no end in sight with it. The explosion seemingly toward INFINITY with human connection on the planet (or at least a finite 6 billion) shows no slowing down. Do we need to know all 6 billion? Probably not. But whomever you do connect with on a significant and meanigful level, use that heart A LOT, and make today count for something. Your little voice in another's life has a lot greater impact than sometimes you will ever know or realize.

Making a difference whether we think so or not, does make a difference in someone's life!

I think there's some guided direction for our days...and that we reflect infinity in moments of lovingkindness... not everyone needs to be looking up at the sun to absorb its light...some can just open a window, or even stand in the shade...everywhere, then, is the center of the Universe, right where our heart needs to be...everywhere we are...:-) Wonderful Gary!

Gary, Twitter and Facebook are far less consuming than Active Rain.  But the time spent on AR produces far more results. I think you can say that time is money, but for me time is life spent with my family. Time - we all have to know what is important to us and when enough is enough. The computer can suck the life out of us if we let it.

Gary - Well thought out and well said!  It's only possible to touch so many people per day.  What impact are we having with those people?  Are we doing anything meaningful?  Your posts always get me to thinking!

So many connections....so little time.... It seems my laptop has become my lap buddy each and every night. It can be consuming and yet it so important to connect as like you say, you never know what my little voice will do.

Gary, knowing that there are one (or two) people that I can call in the middle of the night when I need help...(wink!)..means more to me than 1000 Facebook, twitter or even active rainers in my book.  One or two live people around here are good, too.  We all need the exposure to the web, but, in my book, face-to-face works best for me.  People know who I am, once we've met and that makes all the difference in the world.  I've worked out many a problem because people believe in my integrity.  Great post...I don't know where you get all your material, but, you are always tops on my reading list!

Gary, I can attest that their are many good hearts that have lifted me up, here. I hope that I have done the same for them, from time to time. There are probably 5 million more out there, but I couldn't possibly meet them all. I would vote for Quality or Quantity every time. You have a good heart Gary.

Gary, I know that you resist facebook, but I have to tell you, I get quite a few laughs, more than a few, from my friends on facebook.  I really enjoy it.

Lots of connections without being connected is like someone who has lots of flings, but never learns how to have a deep, meaningful relationship... I do not try to get 1000 connections.. or tweets etc. However, some of the people I have met on AR have blossomed into wonderful, meaningful relationships.,.. and for me, that is where I spend my time.

I've joined all the social media sites any "self respecting agent" should be on.  Do I use them?  No, not really.  The time required to keep up with it all is too much to pay.  I do use AR and am trying to keep dabbling in Twitter & FB though.  I think they'll be around for a bit.

Thanks Gary, great thoughts.  I'm not sure if you can be meaningfully related to thousands of people.

Gary:  This reminds me of someone I worked with years ago.  I bumped into her years after we'd worked together.  At the time we knew each other, she was having a really rough time personally and while I wouldn't have called her a close friend, we went out to lunch one day and I listened her problem, and chatted with her.  We got together a few more times, but lost touch.  When we reconnected, she was emphatic that I was the reason she'd gotten her life on track and was able to deal with her personal problem from years earlier.  I had no idea I had made that kind of impact.

You make a very impactful and strategic point here. We do have to do this with heart. I also think the same applies in our work relations in negotiations, and day to day business dealings.
