The Real Estate industry offers various ways that you can change your identity and marketing campaign to fit your targeted market. Dare to be different, if not a little crazy, in your advertising and you will stand out from the crowd. Once you have been "noticed" you can deliver a powerful message about why the consumer should use you over anyone else. Hey, you were different than anyone else in your marketing, so you must be different in how you do business, right?
So where can you go with this. The roads are truly endless. I suggest wrap your secret identity around somethign else you are passionate about. For example, I could go around as "The Mortgage Pilot" and use "bringing your loan in for a smooth landing." And in fact, I am setting up a campaign around that right now.
I suggest staying away from "identities" already being used, such as "Mortgage Superman", as you can see I have used that one too. The thing is that campaigns using secret identities can be a lot of fun developing and they are a way you can truly stand out from the crowd. Use them wisely as they can backfire on you as well.
Another identity I use (I stopped the mortgage superman for now) is the Florida Mortgage Specialist which I centered around the medical profession using common medical conditions to describe financial ailments instead (Florida Mortgage Doctor was unavailable for legal reasons). It is a work in progress as I am always trying to be more creative with it. It doesn't hurt that my brother is a Chiropractor, so I can get more terms down as time goes on and put more of a medical twist on it. For more on that campaign, visit www.mortgagemeds.com. Keep in mind that most of this work is copyrighted and cannot be used without my permission, sorry.
Why did I go that route with this campaign? Well, simply put, my unique process is called MEDS™, so using Mortgage MEDS™ we "Provide Customized Mortgage Prescriptions"™. How can you not take a campaign with medical crossovers with a program titled like that?
So, yet another identity is born.
Brian Brady had his own identity which I hope he will revive and use more often as I think he was on to something good. His "ARMS Dealer" approach was perfect in my opinion in this day and age where ARMs are being portrayed in negative fashion. His posts, such as The ARMS Dealer WACCs Another Client, were a very good fit.
Hopefully I have encouraged you to spread your wings, dig deep inside, or whatever you need to do to bring out the secret identity within you. Try developing a marketing campaign, website, blog, or whatever that is centered on this identity and see where you can take it. Who knows, maybe you will see an increase in business simply because you dared to be different.
For more ideas, particularly along the line of comic book heroes, check out Jason Price's post, Who are you? I'm Batman (A Theory on Sales/Selling). Here he talks about how salespeople tend to resemble their favorite comic book hero. He also links to DC COmics and Marvel Comics to get a breakdown of the heroes characteristics. I think it is a good starting point if you are stuck.
(Be sure your identity does not violate any laws or infringe on any copyrights)
What an interesting idea
And smart marketing I might add...
