Sometimes it is good to write about the things we enjoy as opposed to work related subjects only. This is one of those types of blogs.
We all know a beautiful yard helps with the value of a home. I find there are intrinsic values too. Yesterday I took the day off and spent all day in my garden. My favorite part of the yard is my rose garden. I love roses and have about 30 different rosebushes. The beauty and variety of roses have always been a fascination to me, but the thorns and upkeep are not :+) . I suppose I should hire a gardener, but somehow I enjoy keeping the yard up myself, and spending money for someone else to do it seems a waste. Another advantage of doing my own gardening is that I don't feel the need to go to the gym. After a day of digging, raking, clipping, and planting I feel as though I've had a great work out. My yard is like a never-ending project. That is probably due to the fact that my plants are on the "desert survival plan", and many of them don't' make it. Part of that is due to the fact that I lived in Virginia for many years, where water usually comes from the sky. Well, I am getting used to it here in Southern California and my yard does look quite nice. Every day I walk around to see what has bloomed or what fruit is ripe. It's relaxing and very therapeutic.
I think, it's important to take time off and do the things we love sometimes. Then the work we do seems all that much more worth while.
