Feeding Wildlife...What does your Local Government Say?

By

There is some big concerns about the feeding of wildlife.  Anything from Birds to Deer to you name it.   Many say that it is unnatural and if you stop feeding, the wildlife suffers from the lack of 'Needing' to look for food.

Many concerns are about disease.  This one is more of a large game issue.  The big issue on this one is that by feeding large amounts of food to deer and bear, always in the same spot, and animal with a disease will transmit it much more quickly in the close quarters of a feeding area.

SOLUTIONS:

First...birds.  Most birds will migrate south when the weather gets cold or food becomes scarce.  Hummingbirds being the biggest concern.  Be sure to pull your feeders at the right time so the birds will continue their trek south when food is still available.

Animals...Other than them becoming Pests, let's look at a couple of things.  Bears are not 'Teddy Bears". They can and will do alot of damage all times of the year.  DO NOT encourage a Bear.  Deer...Do transmit several disease among themselves.  So if you are going to feed the, (WHERE LEGAL), spread out the area where you do the feeding.  This will help limit the exposure of any disease.

The othething that feeding does is makes an area able to support more wildlife.  So if you start to feed...DON'T STOP!  The wildlife become dependent on your support and stopping could mean a Death sentence in the colder climates.

The last concern is Hunters.  Many feel that hunting over food that has been supplied is unethical and not sportsman like.  Most State Game Agencies agree.  This is Illegal in a majority of states.

So, when feeding the wildlife...take these concerns to heart.

NOW!  For my friends that hunt or know people who hunt...a little humor!

My Dad gave me this.  Leave it to him to find a twist to things.  Now you know where I get it from!!!!

Yea...Then we could take down all the Deer Crossing signs on the roads and we wouldn't have any accidents with them. ;-)

Bill...

I agree with everything, and the sign is hysterical. A lot of hunters around here use corn feeders, but do not hunt in the feed areas.

Thanks for the Feature Richard.  I love to feed the Deer!  I rotate the feeding areas and continually change containers.

I hunt out in the woods and not in the yard!

Thankfully we really don't have any dangerous animals to feed around here, but for the most part all I do is put out bird feeder in the Summer.

Deer can't read? So why start a letter Dear Deer? Or would a deer write a John Doe letter? =)

William, I named the deer that come in our back yard, "Jerky", but my wife doesn't think it's funny. Go figure.

No Deer around us on the West Coast of SW Florida but an occasional Panther!  Herons, Egrets and American Storks though are grossly mistreated with cheap hot dogs and "Wonder-less" Bread.  They sit on the roof awaiting the next un-nutritious gorging.  Only rarely do we ever hear of an "arrest" even though the evidence is clear (40 birds on roof!) and doing the apprehensions would be like "shooting ducks in a barrel".  Wildlife do take a beating from the Do-Good'ers who do harm, not anything near good!

Cheers from "our" Paradise!

Baiting for deer is legal in Lower SC and not in upper SC. But as far a deer feeding together and spreading disease I thought they were herd animals.

JL...You need to get out of town more.

Kyke...funny!

Steve...I lived on a farm and when our city cousins would come around for a visit, we would tell them the next cow to be butchered name was Dinner!

James...many peiople who are doing the feeding have no idea of the harm they are doing giving them the junk food.

Well, if you ask me that looks to be 'fair' warning to me! LOL  But I know you better than that.  You would give at least a warning shot first!  LOL LOL

Laura...deer are only heard animals when wintering in harsh climates.  Otherwise, small groups are the norm.  Some ares have so many Deer, the local officials want you to bait in order to get a better chance at getting a Deer and reducing the population.

Vern...A warning shot would be sportsman like I guess.
