Flying ants and swarming termites are often difficult to tell apart. As a result, termites are commonly mistaken for ants and are often referred to as "white ants."

Love Roberta's comments. We will all need to carry a magnifying glass. Gee lady, I don't know what's eating your place, those could be just flying ants. You hold it down and I check it out with handy magnifying glass . " hold still, I won't hurt you, I just want to give you a physical and let's take a look at those body parts",lol.

It's actually really easy. Ants have a segmented body. More like an hour glass shape. And the wings have dark viens. Termites have a head and long body. The wings have a translucent ( Rainbow like) glow.

I have often gotten confused trying to remember which one has the segmented body.  its a much easier comparison now that you see them side by side.

Thanks for the clarification of the differences between flying ants and termites.  I didn't realize that it was all that confusing.
