I guess Christmas is really around the corner, no matter you are ready or not.  As I get more "wise" and "mature" :) each year, I feel more and more the need to do good deeds during the holidays.  I can write a book to complain and mourn about mishaps in life, and how is that going to do any good for me!?

There are so many ways to show your spirits of giving and sharing.  For example, help to serve dinner at homeless shelter, deliver food to the needed family, singing Christmas carol at nursing homes (of course, I have enough sense not to choose this one to do), donating toys, children coats to local charity.

Some of you may know I am a CASA volunteer for abused and foster children, and we always bring gifts to these children to make sure they have a Christmas just like everybody else.  This year I decided to help  Violence Against Women to organize to collect Christmas gifts to 3 deserved families.  These mothers get enough courage to leave the abusive relationship and take their children with them.  They work very hard to put food on the table, to make sure their children are safe, they don't want them to witness their mother being abused.  These ladies and their children deserve to have a decent Christmas just like your and I.

I attach a newsletter with the calender I am sending to my clients, and spread the words out, forward to all the Realtors on our Board, and hope we can collect some items that these families need/want for Christmas.

Maybe you can help your local organizations to collect Christmas gifts by using your powerful network.  It just feels good to know you help to make someone who is less fortunate to have a decent Christmas.

Merry Christmas to all of you on Active Rain.

Rita, Exactly -so true.  If you cannot think of something just call an everyday group and they will give you a job. We did food bags in our neighborhood.     The Rotary here is looking for help shopping with kids, in fact it is a good reason to join a group.   I try to be in the toy section of like a dollar store and hand someone a twenty, smile and walk away.  Good post.

Hi, Pat, I don't have everything I want, but I have everything I need.  But these unfortunate families can't even have the basic day in and day out.  It really doesn't cost much at all to help them to have at least one day of happiness.  Good for you also to help the needed, more of us need to help as much as we can.

Rita, It is so nice to hear how you help out during the holidays.  I volunteer at a non profit senior home and anything you do there they are so grateful for!  It's so unfortunate that people place their elders away and don't have time to visit.  I hope to be able to help more when it gets warmer.

Carole, I know, it is so sad to see the elders are neglected by their family.  I don't know how the young ones can do it, aren't these the parents used to take care of them when they needed them?  It is very nice of you to help these elders feel special.  Good for you.

Good for you, Rita!  I'm familiar with CASA and the good work they do.  I believe that we can all be angels to others at times in our lives.  May your holidays be blessed as you're extending blessings to others.

Hi, Kate, I am so glad you are familiar with CASA, it is a wonderful program for these needed children.  I work with the program all year round, but when Christmas comes, we need to step up a bit to help. Thank you for your kind words!  Happy holidays to you also.

Hey Tinker!  Glad to see you again.  That's what it is all about, help as much as we can, and give back.  Happy Thanksgiving to you, too!

Rita,

YES!  And hopefully the "Christmas and Thanksgiving" attitude will carry over into the next year past the holidays.

Judi, me too.  I always try to remind myself how fortunate I am, and need to help as often as I can.  I hope seasons like this will inspire more people to give and help the less fortunate.  Happy holidays to you.
