I received notice of this potential virus and thought I should pass it along. I did go to snopes.com to check it out and apparently it is for real. If anyone finds information to the contrary, please let me know...I just figured better safe than sorry.

Subject: New Virus (NO JOKE)

New Virus (NO JOKE)

This is legitimate. Please pass this along to your friends.

The newest virus circulating is
The UPS/FedEx/DHL Delivery Failure.

You will receive an email from UPS/Fed Ex Service along with a packet number.
It will say that they were unable to deliver
A package sent to you on such-and-such a date.

It then asks you to print out
The invoice copy attached.

DON'T TRY TO PRINT THIS.
IT LAUNCHES THE VIRUS!

Pass this warning on to all your PC operators
At work and home.

This virus has caused Millions of dollars
In damage in the past few days.

Snopes confirms that it is real.

Thanks for the heads up. There are so many viruses and scams out there. I have friends who send me funny videos, etc, but I won't open any of them! Once burnt, twice shy! Will reblog this one.

Carol-you are absolutely right about "Once burnt, twice shy" and I will never understand the mentality of thoses that live life at others expense...if these clowns would expend the same effort towards a "productive" end...oh well no point...thanks for your comment and the reblog.

June-no virus for me either and I'd like to keep it that way. By the way, I know that I still owe you pictures of my bike...I'll get them out there.

Diane-how about this twist on hackers and virus creators: a few rogue hackers create a anti-virus that seeks out other hackers and destroys their computers? We could pass a law that all computers ever made would have to incorporate or be retro-fitted with a green paint explosive canister so when the anti-virus finds a hacker or sender of a virus the canister would explode in there face marking them for life...just a thought.

Karen and Jane-I have not received any of these emails either, but we do all get packages from these shipping companies and it would be easy enough to be taken in by the scam...once again better safe than sorry.

I work under the mantra that the only people contacting me by email are those to whom I have given my email address. I don't give it to just anyone. It's also a good idea to remember that no reputable company is going to contact you by email needing account numbers, passwords, or anything else like that. And if you're expecting a package, those companies will deliver it to your door, and if you're not home, they will leave a notice on your door. The protocols of reputable companies has not changed just because we have email now.

Jim-all good points and I for the most part do not open anything from anyone I don't know, but I certainly can understand someone reading the email asking them to print confirmation or receipt of the notice and that's all it takes, print that receipt and it launches the virus...a momentary lapse in reasoning and it's all over! Anyway, thought it was best to make as many people aware of the latest virus as possible.

Nick, these emails would drive me crazy if I hadn't finally made the decision to sift through my emails while they're still on my email server. That way i can go into the junk mail folder and immediately see these things grouped under the isolation block and delete before I download the legitimate email. It's a bit more tedious, but well worth not having to undo virus mayhem.
