Winter Survival Kit for your Car - It is time to prepare for Winter weather.

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Centre Realtors

I am not looking forward to winter and do not drive in bad weather. It is a liability I like to avoid and  I do not drive clients around in bad weather.

However I like to prepare for emergencies. I have made a list of items needed for the winter survival kit.

1. A small shovel .

2 Blankets.

3.Flashlights

4 cell phone and  charger

5.battery cables

6.de-icer for locks

7.Red cloth or flag

8 .kitty litter

9. some non perishable food item.

If you have teenagers who have just started driving, make sure you have the kit in the car and prepare them for snow emergencies.

Gita, I'd like to suggest a different item than kitty litter.  I got stuck on the ice last year and kitty litter did NOTHING to get me out - but it DID make a nice muddy mess on the car.  I went into the garage and found a bundle of old roofing shingles - and I took several and placed them on the ground in front of the wheels.  Worked like a charm - no mess, and I could re-use them!  Just picked them up and tossed 'em in my trunk.

Our winters are usually not too bad, but I do like to have an emergency plan just in case.  I read somewhere that those thin reflective blankets are really nice to have in a kit like this as they do not take up much room and retain body heat extremely well.

Thanks Gita, I always get these items together around this time of year. and Karen, thanks for the shingle idea. I think I'll put in both just to be sure. I always put a couple of bags of sand in my pick-up bed right on the axle, it gives some traction and can be used for traction...

Hi Gita..Great Idea, maybe email your Clients and post on your web site. You might add hand warmers to the list...but heck what do I know, we seldom see the temperature drop below freezing in Victoria......have a safe and Happy Holiday season.
