NOVEMBER 22, 2009  The 46th Anniversary Of The Death Of An American President

John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the youngest man elected to the office of President.  Much has been written both pro and con about him, his politics and his life.

John F Kennedy

John F Kennedy was one of the most galvanizing men to achieve the office of President.

He inspired Americans. He was young, handsome and charismatic. He loved his country.  He was a patriot and war hero.  He was concerned about social issues, economic issues and maintaining world peace.

He was loved around the world and respected by International leaders.  The Kennedy White House was most often referred to as Camelot.  An almost magical and uplifting time in American history.

Struck down by multiple assassins in Dallas Texas 46 years ago today.

Today let us remember an American President who gave his life in service of the People of the United States.

Share your remembrances of him and pay tribute.  Share your experiences the day he was assassinated.  The mood our country was in.  Your opinion about his assassination.  Many of our members were not even born when he died but have been interested in learning more about his life.

                          QUOTES OF JOHN F KENNEDY

  • "A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people."

  •  "Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future."

  • "Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty."

  • "A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on."

  • "A nation which has forgotten the quality of courage which in the past has been brought to public life is not as likely to insist upon or regard that quality in its chosen leaders today - and in fact we have forgotten."

  • "Communism has never come to power in a country that was not disrupted by war or corruption, or both."

  • "Domestic policy can only defeat us; foreign policy can kill us."

  • "I look forward to a great future for America - a future in which our country will match its military strength with our moral restraint, its wealth with our wisdom, its power with our purpose."

  • "I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered at the White House - with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."

  • "It is an unfortunate fact that we can secure peace only by preparing for war."

Bonnie, Thank you!  No one can possibly think a lone gunman was solely responsible.

Did he see what would happen in 2008?

It was a sad day, indeed, and the mystery of his death is still unresolved.

Tony, what amazed me was 60% of the people did not believe the Warren Commission.  Even though I remember when it came out I did not realize how many people scoffed at it.  In those days we did not have instant communication.  You talked at work or socially but rarely after the assassination did people openly speak out against the government report.

It was years later when authors delved into the inconsistencies that people who harbored doubt began to see they were not alone.

Nick, that was the quote I found most interesting today when I researched them.  He was a visionary.

Claudette,  thank you for commenting.  I have posted 3 parts in the last week of a series I am doing on the assassination.  You might find them an interesting read.  Much more is known now than a few years ago.  Some people have made confessions including LBJs mistress and E Howard Hunt.
