When Being A Lone Wolf Is A Good Thing

REALTORS and for that matter many business men and women with that entrepreneurial bent to them are independent by nature. It is not that they can't work on teams or cooperate with groups, but what drives them is from inside not external, from a "boss." They are to a large extent their own boss. Others might at times call them a lone wolf. Lone wolves can get isolated and not always be a good thing. But

A Lone Wolf Can Be A Good Thing.

Especially in terms of a smile, a good attitude, a can do attitude, a person of hope, a problem solver, a thoughtful and caring person in a sea of gloomy faces. Make your lone wolf self shine. Be the difference in the world you want to see. "EVERY" day!!

Gary... I agree being a lone wolf IS a good thing. When something goes right, you can take full credit. It is self rewarding. On the other hand, if anything goes wrong.. you can only look yourself in the mirror. LOL.

Gary - I just commented on Debe's featured post and thanked her for the pep talk. Now I'm here to read your's and must say "thanks coach" you gave your post a different spin.

Gary...a smile can relax most people. Once relaxed, they are more willing to listen to your advice.

If you can keep your head about you are losing theirs, you may be a lone Wolf.

If you can keep your head about you when oyhers are capitulating to mass hestia, you may be a lone wolf.

If you can keep your head about you and see opportunity in calamity, you may be a lone wolf.

If you can keep your head about you see there is always more than one way, you may be a lone wolf.

I have always been a lone wolf... I guess at first it was by accident, and then I liked it because it allows me to be more creative... I always had a bit of a problem NOT looking outside the box.

Attitude matters. The right attitude makes all the difference.

Yep, if you want to avoid the buck passing, meetings to set up meetings, and endless committee sessions, it's good to be able to be a lone wolf.

Suits me just fine! Sometimes you are too old to be hired so you have to be the lone wolf. However its a lot of fun being your own boss.

I love being a lone wolf...but I like my pack leader....my broker keeps me in line. Because like the lone wolf cub, I can get a little "out there" sometimes. But, he keeps me nipped... love your analogy. Keep up the great work, Gary. You must make a terrific trainer!

I've been a lone wolf all my life, Gary, and since I don't know how to be anything else, I'm a real estate broker. So, it all makes sense.

Gary - Wolves have some really great natural survival instincts. Not only do they make good Realtors, they can be wonderful hunters for buyers and fighters (advocates) when it comes to guarding their clients best interests.

Just beware if they only work nights...could be a lone wherewolf! It seems, as a Realtor, I need to have some degree of the Lone Wolf qualities to continue reaching my goals,

Hi Gary,I used to be more of lone wolf. I suppose once you are you remian so but I do collaborate more now. There are so many that have great insight and to be my best, I seek out the best in others and defer, defer, defer. :-)

I have to be a lone wolf or I won't get anything done! I have a great managing broker that I can go to and that is a wonderful thing!

Lone wolves are survivors.... husband and i come from environments where we both had to "hustle" to make it, for access doors were closed. It made us trailblazers which is what makes leaders... lone wolves... a good thing as you said.

Gary, I may be a lone wolf but I hope I am never isolated. Now I wonder if I can be a lone wolf who loves being around people :)

Very good coaching..Realtors are a business owner and operate their own business (some fail to recognize this fact) which takes a great deal of preparation and analzing to keep on track. A smile is something that costs little, comes from the heart (hopefully) and can make such a difference where ever you go! Thanks for your wonderful words this Monday morning of Thanksgiving week!

Yes that is what I want to be a Lone Wolf, I have been one for 2 years and almost went back to the "pack" for comraderie but after all is said and done I am loving being a Lone Wolf, that is the way to go! Thanksyou for the post.

Lone Wolf is great at getting things done. And I love Carol #13's thoughts on this.

I do think most Realtors are independent by nature. Some of lone wolfs and some run in packs. Even in a pack they follow the leader, whether the Broker or their coach. Some of us don't.

I love doing my own thing and having the opportunity to chart my own course. Thanks for the post.

Sometimes lone wolf is more of a lonely wolf...so I need to watch myself and make sure I get lots of people time. At least, I used to have to do that when I was a criminologist working from home. Now, thank God for staging and selling real estate -- tons of people time and tons of lone wolf time...the best of both worlds!

True entrepeneurs are independent by nature. I guess that makes a true entrepeneur the lone wolf.

I am a Lone Wolf. My fierce independent streak got me to broker owner very quickly, and my support system,,, Active Rain!

I like being a lone wolf in a sea of other lone wolves. I still need others around me, but prefer to know and handle each and every detail of each transaction.

I am a lone wolf by choice. after a couple of decades of being a "boss" and having a boss I have decided that I don't want to do that again . . maybe because I already have. I work with a micro brokerage and we help each other out and the internet and my clients keep me from being isolated. Life is good!

I love the independence being a lone wolf brings. Interesting--some people think that "alone" means "lonely." Far from the truth

I like the fact that I can pick and chose the focus of my day, many times, I love the fact that I can control my income goals. Which makes me happe to be a lone wolf.

Gary, it is a good thing. In my first life I was always the "boss". I ran programs for battered women and the first one was one I started, wrote the grants, designed the program, put together the board and hired the staff. So I guess I never learned how to take orders.

When I became a REALTOR I realized very quickly that I was a LONE WOLF, so I started my own company and love it. I have several other Lone Wolves working with me now and I think I'm a good Broker In Charge because I know they don't want me looking over their shoulders. But we all agree that we like having peers around us sometimes.

I too try to be different from the crowd. Honest and Integrity is more important to me than making a sale that is not right for some reason. Congrats on the feature:)

It's great to see that you have a good attitude. Being a lone wolf is sometimes frowned upon because "they say" you can't give as good of service. I wouldn't do it any other way. Thanks for the morning pick me up!

Being a lone wolf is great. Some people work much hard and are more involved if there is not someone constantly looking over their shoulder. I like bing in this enviroment. Great post. Happy Thanksgiving

My grandmother used to call me the Lone Ranger when I was younger. I am very independent and do not follow a pack. Even when I drive. One of my favorite things to do is surf where I am alone with my board and the waves. I love solitude but I also love being with people. I like a balance between the two.

Gary - Everyday I make it a point to smile at people ... I'll catch their eyes in the grocery store isle ... in the parking lot ... it's amazing how many people will smile back and equally as many who choose to ignore and turn their heads away. There is power in a smile ... it makes me feel good ... and it inspires me to smile even more knowing what a smile can do for others. A smile into someones eyes can touch their heart.

Gary...I think the "lone wolf" standard will become more commonplace with the continued progress of technology and less dependence upon large brand companies. There seems to be a merging of personal/professional skills to really do business effectively...From one lone wolf to another...

Gary, you hit it spot on again. To be in real estate requires at least some degree of lone wolfedness, because ultimately the wolf is responsible for his or her own success. No one to blame, no one to depend upon. Independent, for sure. It is so great to find a den like this where other lone wolves hang out!

Great comments by everyone. What is amusing to me is EVERYONE here on Active Rain are Lone Wolves. Not really all that surprising I guess. A bunch of independent types LOL. Hey we are the ones that found Active Rain, not those others out there doing things still the traditional ways...

After 17 years in Corporate America, how refreshing it is to be able to have direct accountability for my clients' success (and referrals!). By nature I'm that Lone Wolf, but know full well that I'm surrounded by a "team" of wonderful partners who help make it happen!

Gary...Self Reliance is a wonderful trait to posses, a lone wolf can be very loyal and they mate for life...all good in my book.

I too love being a lone wolf so to speak. Actually even though I work for another company and broker after starting and selling the local Century 21 some years ago, I find I am a lone wolf with a team. We don't always play well together but the smile factor when things aren't quite right is always a help. I like your twist on the subject.

Being positive and cheerful goes a long way. Whenever you feel down, just find a positive, happy person and your attitude will change. You might say it is contagious.

Gary A lone wolf is a good thing. This should not prevent you from socializing, as you pointed out it is all in the attitude.

Gary - Wonderful post, short and sweet just the way I like them! As for being a Lone Wolf sometimes being a team player is very important but also a Lone Wolf. I have always been a Lone Wolf most of my life because I travel so much and it is very difficult for people to travel with me.

I like this. I'm a people person and enjoy being around others.

I think it's a great reminder that one person can make a difference in a person's day.

When I go around smiling and saying hello to strangers, the reactions are often terrific, and on the few days when I'm not in the greatest mood, a smile or a kind word can do the same for me.

I have been on a couple teams and have determined that I am a lone wolf,lol. I just like to go my own way...I do try to make a positive impact, unless you are going the opposite way...lol.

Gary, there was a Realtor at National convention one year, maybe 2000... He was on a panel talking about his smile being his "secret weapon or best marketing tool. I wish I could remember who he is... It was impressive!
