Sen. Mary Landrieu (D) Louisiana made no pretense that she held out for a pay off in exchange for her vote on Health Care Saturday.  The price tag was $300 million in Medicaid funds for her state. To secure her yes vote Harry Reid added a provision in the bill allocating the $300 million.

Maybe I don't understand math, but doesn't that add to the total of the package?   Did the CBO factor in all these sweetheart deals when they figured out the cost of health care?

She is proud that she asked for the money and got it.
Mary still claims that does not mean she will ultimately vote for the bill.

Yeah, we hear ya Mary.  Going have your hand out again when it comes vote time?

60% of Americans are against the Health Care Bill, but Mary Mary is making hay while the sun shines.

  • Like most politicians Mary is not concerned how adversely the taxation proposed in this bill will impact her constituents.  She's only concerned with coming home with jingle jingle in her pockets now.

Just another example that Obama has done nothing to clean up the system nor is he being transparent about what happened.  When asked about the deal his Press Secretary dodged the question about whether it was unseemly or not.

Of course not! Washington Politics as usual.

Maybe we just need to put some red lights up at the Senate.  Seems Harry Reid will be paying for services rendered.  Can anyone say Prostitution?  And I don't want to hear all the crap about anyone else... they're all whores.

What is the difference between a prostitute and a politician?  Just the cost.

Exactly what Kennedy was saying about corruption in politics will eventually lead us to communism. What wisdom we should look to, and how does this get passed in front of America.

How brazen is this lady, and how brazen is this administration to bribe a sitting senator in writing!

Nick - I agree. The administration would not even comment.  She needs to worry about 2010 if she is up for re-election

Bonnie - As long as she's bringing home the bacon to her constituants, I think she'll be fine in 2010.  As for our Sen. Burris here in Illinois, I think his horse trading was more on a personal note.  Payment in the form of a mild rebuke over the manner in which he obtained his senate seat.

The senate once vowed not to allow Roland Burris into their ranks.  Now we see his penance for his malfunctioning moral compass, the disregard for democratic ideals, the perjury. A mild rebuke, over the weekend while nobody is watching.

Patrick,  You are probably correct that she will survive the way Murtha has all these years.

Burris is another puppet. He voted to keep funding Acorn.  Do you think he can get through a real election?

Bonnie - I don't think he could survive a primary.

There is another cover up going on in Washington, and this time the press is in on it as well.

Pat,  I wondered if he could.  He is paying for that appointment with his votes.

Nick,  Do we actually have a free press anymore?  I thought it was ObamaPress

Bonnie - Seriously, this has to go down as the most brazen act of bribery in history, right in front of everyone to see.

Nick,  I am not minimizing the seriousness of this.  I asked a question in the blog - does her payoff get added to the total cost of health care we will be taxed for?

This unfortunately is business as usual when it comes to politics. It's too much to ask people to just do their job and represent their people. They have to get extra on top of it.

JL I guess cleaning up the house, transparency and no more good old boy politics was only campaign rhetoric.

As you say, it's Washington as it always has been.

Hi Bonnie , As you can see the Acorn does not fall far from the tree of government. You have to remember Louisiana has the best politicians money can buy!
