Sounds like a neat place, but I will stay somewhere warm this time of year.  Maybe in the summer.

Tom - I love the fresh spring spa and old time resorts.  The spa properties that remain really are a throw back to a different time.  I also enjoyed the photos of the bottles.  Over the past couple of years, I have received a half dozen requests for permission to excavate on properties owned by my clients.  Apparently, in the St. Louis, there are active groups that excavate old privies to find bottles of all types.

Tom, This was facinating.   I didn't know about the special waters or old time spas.  You surely do live in a very special place.

Hi Tom,

What an interesting place, I had no idea you had so much history in Wakesha. I do remember however seeing an interview about Les Paul and how he claimed that as his home, it was very endering at the time.

Tom, do you know if his wife Mary Ford was from the area? I actually remember them performing together when I was a kid.

His wife Mary Ford and Les opened up at a bar on Williams street in Waukesha, and also a bar at the end of a little town called North lake Wisconsin. Pretty interesting couple. he grew up on St. paul ave in Waukesha which is now renamed the Les Paul Parkway.

Tom, I've never been in Wisconsin....but you've shared great information and photography of the area. I'd love to walk where Abraham Lincoln walked. He was an honorable President. ;-)

His wife hung out here after Abe's death. Wisconsin is beautiful, and Waukesha is a show place and example to that.

Tom, this is a wonderful post about the history of Waukesha.  We were entertained at a Keller Williams Seminar by a guitarist named Tommy Immanuel who was profoundly impacted by Les Paul.  He talked extensively about how he was so privileged to work with such an incredible artist and man.

Thanks for sharing this!

Les Paul influenced all of the great musicians of this time, and changed music as we will know it.

Look for those high resolution photos coming your way soon buddy; they don't do too good for my cataracts as well.

tom,

That's good news.

I think getting old is when we can't remember where we put our glasses, which we need to read the label on the prescription drug so that we take the right pill.

Is a cataract a scientific term for the loss of memory?

I wish it was; that way I could save myself $7,000 an eye by forgetting about it.
