I Always Wanted To Be A REALTOR When I Grew Up

In wanting to be a REALTOR when I grew up, I knew it was for me

set my own hours
the big bucks
walking around construction sites
drive fancy cars
assist buyers picking out their colors with new homes
wheeling and dealing with all sorts of folks
mix of indoor and outdoor work, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH

But the truth for all REALTORS is not to grow up to be one, but take time to grow into it. You don't have all the answers. Continuously learn. Say, I will find out.

REALTORS are cute too!!

I see this little lady has a future helping you show homes!?! She is so adorable!! When I was younger I wanted to be a vet. I even worked for one as a teenager!! I LOVE being a realtor, and I feel we realtors have the best job in the world!!

Gary, I became a Realtor® so I could drive a big old fancy car!

I keep morphing from one career to another. I must say I didn't see being a Realtor as one of the options when I was young.

You are right, REALTORS are cute too. We have so much money and free time that we can spend a lot of time in the spa right!

Gary--Your sidekick is adorable. I actually had an intern that said she wanted to grow up to be a realtor--her friend's mom was one and she made lots of money, had great cars and got to wear really cute clothes and show houses and ........ It didn't take long for the reality to set in working for me and crawling under houses with the pest inspector! Never wear heels to an inspection! ;-) She went off to college, got a degree in real estate, and has been working in the industry for almost 10 years (and she does wear really cute clothes...)

You said it. Continuously learn. This business, whether real estate or mortgages, calls for a constant appetite for learning otherwise production will be limited and there is no fun in it.

Gary that is the cutest photo, it just makes me smile. I am growing into it - I don't think we will ever learn"all there is to know" - but what a fun and challenging process!

The tutus did not fit well , so here we are. :-)

GARY- Excellent post. One of my twins occassionally will accompany me when I am working with clients. She has a little buisness suit and handles herself in a very professional manner. She knows not to say anything, offer comment or opinion and not to be obvious. Her job is to listen for comments from the prospective buyers and to yake short one or two word notes.

The clients LOVE HER. She is a little mini-me. Everytime she has had a "Take your kid to work day" with me, she has always received compliments and 9/10 the buyers will make an offer. This early training will help her throughout her life as she is learning how to conduct herself ina businesslike manner.

It also gives us quality time going to and coming from appointments. Great way to bond.

Being a Realtor® was not what I planned on doing with my life.. but as always, life throws you a curve ball every now and then. I've been in this business now for years.. and I can't figure out why I didn't do this from the beginning. This job fits my personality to a *T*.

This little one is definitely the cutest Realtor I have ever seen. I never grew up thinking about being a Realtor (not sure I knew what one was). I grew into it 20 years ago and its a perfect fit!!

Gary, I wanted to be a teacher. Every once in a while I think I actually feel like one!

I always wanted to be a lender when I grew up. Just took me too long to grow up. LOL

I wish I would have started this right out of college

I guess I wanted to be a realtor so I could discover my true passion (so getting into real estate, for me, was/is well worth it). But as you may have noticed, I am not a cookie cutter realtor. ;-)

Gary ~ I instantly smiled when I seen this picture. I didn't know what a Realtor was as a kid. I wanted to be a dancer. I took tap, ballet and jazz as a kid and never pursue it. Wish I did now.

GAry - As I mentioned in a recent post - it's not all the glamor some people might think. But, for me the trigger was being able to set my own hours, and being able to work from my home whenever and as often ...and not having to dress up unless I have an appointment with a client.

Great comments. It seems like we go down many roads and take lots of detours before landing at Realtor, or lender, or professional in this industry!

What a cute picture! Do little children really dream of being a Realtor? I don't think I even knew the word, but then again I wasn't the sharpest kid!

Cute picture...This is not a profession that most people think about being when still in school. It it usually an oppurtunity.

You are so right there are a lot of cute realtors out ther but non of them as cute as the one pictured above.

There were many things I thought about doing when I was younger, but a Realtor was never on the list. Your daughter looks like she will be a cute Realtor though and may be excited to learn the business form you. Looks like shes already getting excited about the nice cars.

Never in a million years did I think I would end up a Realtor. But we are cute! lol

Hi Gary, When I was 13 years old, I knew I wanted to be in real estate. My father had an uncle that bought real estate in South Melbourne beach in the 1960's before anyone knew where it was. He made quite a handsome profit on anything he touched. I originally wanted to be in real estate, so I could buy my own real estate. And, that's what we started doing in 1996 and that's what we still do. I love it.

I thank many don't know they will end up here. I wanted to when I was young (early 20s) but it wasn't part of the plan, that's for sure!
