Incorrect Information Regarding Texas Driving Laws!!!

Every other year the Texas driving laws are updated.  These laws are voted into being and go into effect on September 1st of odd years.   Emails have been incorrectly circulating saying that the following laws are going into effect.  This is apparently a result of a miscommunication.  Texas Department of Public Safety has not issued information regarding new laws that will be going into effect on September 1.

THESE ARE ALL FALSE:

1)  Carpool lane violations  First offense is $1068.50(freeways have signs posted for $271 this is incorrect).  Second time is double, so $2137, third time triple ($3205.50).  Anyone wealthy enough or intellegance impaired enough to get caught a 4th time will have their license suspended.  (Wow, I would hate to pay for the first violation...let alone subsequent ones!!!)

2)  Incorrect lane changes  or crossing into another lane in presence of solid lines or in an intersection will set you back $380.

3)  Blocking intersections will now set you back by $485.

4)  Seatbelt usage passengers over 18 not using seatbelts will receive a ticket AND the driver will receive a ticket as well.

5)  DUI Laws strengthened mandatory jail time for DUI's and stays on driving record for 10 years.

6)  Cell phone usage must be hands free.  Ticket is $285, and by all accounts we are expecting record numbers of tickets written for this.  Fine will double in construction zones.

Remember, you are responsible for new laws even if you were unaware of the implementation.  Municipalities will fatten their wallets on drivers that aren't aware of new laws.  September 1st will be new laws implementation and you need to be aware of

Chris, if these are all false laws, what are the real laws?

A couple of these sound like a good idea. The fines are egegious but the law part sounds like an idea that might actually be implemented.

Definately might be good laws to explore.  Right now, Donna, DPS have not announced the new laws that willbe going into effect on September 1.  I'm going to talk to some of my Defensive Driving buddies next week and see what they have heard.  I received an email with these "new laws" and, having taught defensive driving for years, knew that July 1st wasn't when the laws should go into effect.  Usually they are voted on right around this time.  I suspect that these are changes they are looking into....

This is one of those things that gets sent around the internet, with the state changed.  Since everything that has "forward this to everyone you know AND their dog" on it might as well have HOAX!!! in bright red letters on its forehead, and since everything that's sent around the internet that's the virtual equivalent of "Danger, Will Robinson!  Danger!  Danger!" is a hoax, I run these all past www.snopes.com before reacting at all.  This one popped up on another blog as being about California - only the name was changed.

I can't get to the right page on snopes right now (they appear to be having "issues", or maybe it's just that my broadband has molded with all this rain and flooding), or I'd give you the link.  Evidently some of these ARE laws in California but the fines are nowhere near as egregious as indicated.

Tricia, you are right!  Read Thesa's comment as well!  I did check on www.snopes.com and it was originally started as a California law.

Thesa, the sad thing is this was emailed to me (and everyone else he knows) from my broker!  I don't pass on these things typically but initially had a panic attack, then I realized that the laws in Texas don't go into effect until September 1.  I used to be a defensive driving teacher, so I knew that.  Plus another thing that I didn't even publish was that it said you couldn't drive more than 3 miles over the speed limit. BULL!!  You can't drive a mile over the posted speed limit without being at risk of getting a ticket.
