Writer's Block Contest #2: Favorite Hang Outs (A Localism Post)

This is the second contest spawned because of an idea inspired by our very own Super AquaGirl of No Writer's Block Allowed fame, Sarah Cooper.

The first contest was a big success and was a collaberative idea between Sarah and Chris Griffith. From that contest, we learned what items on our fellow Active Rainers' desks help us keep sane. This is where "Gretchen" made her debut, and met her match with "Madison."

The new contest is being created thanks to Sarah's latest post on Writer's Block.

"My (My Family's) Favorite Hang Out is ____________."

The purpose of this contest is to help with the writer's block on what to put on Localism. Here is how it works:

Pick your favorite hang out. That is right... where you go to get away from it all. It can be your own personal one or your enitre family's.
Title the post: "My (or My Family's) Favorite Hang Out is __________" (See that blank. That is where you fill in the name of your favorite hang out. And please pick the option of "My" or "My Family's" to start it off with. Just in case there any smart people out there.) :)
Tell us where your hang out is located.
How did this place become your hang out?
What is there to do there?
Why might others enjoy making this their hang out?
Post it to the NWBA group and to the appropiate city/neighborhood on Localism.
And post a link to the post here in the comments.

Hey, guess what? That is it nothing more; nothing less.

The contest does have a deadline: July 31, 2007. I am looking for 3 judges to help pick 3 winners. With the AR gods' permission, points will hopefully be awarded to the winners as such: 1st place - 600; 2nd - 500; 3rd - 400. In addition, the winners will have their posts featured to both AR and Localism.

Done, but I disqualified myself as it's not a place that others can really hang out. Here.

I like this idea, I have to think about it because in my family we all have different places we like to go. But I am sure I can find one in common.

Nope can't write about that, because my favorite hang out is a place that has to be experienced and not talked about :)

It does not necessarily have to be the whole family. It can just be your hang out spot to get away from it all. Golf course, lake (boating or fishing), bowling alley, club, bar, restaurant, mall, gym, etc... where ever you go to just get away from the hassles of life and have fun or relax. Hope that helps with the _________.

There is not one place where you find yourself going to escape? What about places like the hair salon or nail salon. The day spa or gym... places where you go to treat yourself and escape in the moment. A place where you can just hang out and feel free.

Hey, now that people know you secret identity, they will flock to hear more of what you have to say. You will have followers (other than the pets). :)

One of the reasons that Starbucks became so popular is that they are a "third place" - you now have, home, office and Starbucks. You can read the paper there, work on your computer, chat with friends. Interesting, though, that this is now being diluted by drive-throughs and long lines at in-hotel or in-conference center locations that are counters without the sense of place.
