Family Get Togethers...that probably should NOT have happened

This "Jive Turkey" is probably not a good choice ass the entre' as you set your
Thanksgiving table this year.
Sal & I have noticed, over the last many years, that not only are we not going to any 'family-type', we
are not Invited! ?
...could it be because of the get-togethers that we sponsored in the past.

I present 2 such experiences for you to consider

...the year that we adopted our son [5yrs], was also the 50th anniversary for my parents, so
I was made aware that the other 4 sibs and their family members thought a joint celebration of Marriage & Thanksgiving would be great. Being the only family member living in the same state as our parents [MI], it seemed logical that Sal & I would handle the arrangements.
...OK, we were in agreement with the CONCEPT & proceeded to locate a venue / Hall to accommodate all of us. We found a Golf Course in Oakland Co. Where we thought all sibs + family members would be staying [ however, it had been decided that they would stay with MI residents--Sal & I being one hotel, my sister-in-law's family another, our parents on tap for the third, & my sister's aunt/ uncle in law for her group. ]
....that being filed away, we rented the place, chose menu items, printed & mailed list PLUS prices to others; We paid for parents, sister paid for her hubby's aunt & uncle--which was a surprise-welcomed, all the rest were on their own; all food choices were returned in a timely fashion, hall was so notified, & we ordered a Wedding-like cake.
...I decided that with 5 small & smaller children coming that we better have some items for them to play with during the meal, if any of us wanted to enjoy the eating experience. Obviously I did a masterful job as the long, drink straws that were also whistles were a HIT.
...the only thing that saved me AT the hall was that each one of us had a child who discovered how to use those high-pitched, horrible one-note straws. 4 boys 5-9 & 1 little girl 2.5yrs entertained us the entire time. Only the 18 mo. little boy couldn't make his 'sing', so he cried.

++++++

These same  family members decided to give us another chance to prove that Sal & I, plus an older son now, could make better decisions. Again, since we were asked to locate a restaurant holding a Holiday dinner, we checked out places, this time in Maconb Co. where they had Buffet style. Hey, that way no problem with one check & 'who ordered what?' questions.
...found one that seemed very nice, Sal & I once again paid for my Parents as well as our own, once again hosted my 1 brother's family.
...the line up for the Buffet was just long enough to whet your appetite, but short enough to keep the kids in the line comfortably.
...NO toys were purchased by me [ can you BELIEVE that I was questioned about that??]
...meal was pretty good; we enjoyed it even though neither Sal nor I like lining up for food; everyone else seemed happy [ a FIRST]
...Mom did not have to cook anything, I think.

Now, we have a private dinner at Home & this year, it will be just the 2 of us.
...will not miss all the hectic preps.
...will not have to worry about weather conditions
...will watch the MI. Detroit Thanksgiving Parade, before switching to the NY. parade
...will enjoy our meal in the formal Dining room
...will miss the little faces around the table [ when you have 4 cats, & 5 dogs, you always have little faces
around every table when FOOD is the venue.

So, as you move these next two days, either to travel to, or welcome relatives & friends to your Homes,
do take some time to have a Laugh on US as you read this post.

Also, do know that, however poorly trained entertainers that we may be, our Wishes for you & yours are deeply meant. Do have a Wonderful gathering with family and friends this 26  November 2009.
Get refreshed for the season to come.
