Thanksgiving is at our door and with such a really short week it only makes sense to take a look at new movies and other things to do in Iowa City and Coralville early this week. Slim pickings of course, since it is Thanksgiving weekend and we'll all be busy eating turkey followed by rising at 4.00am to shop on Friday. (I'm thinking that's the ritual for many anyway, if not for me, as I'm not a fan of early rising - especially not to shop!) Anyway, this is what I've come up with for this "weekend" November 25 - November 29.
I'll start as I always do with movies. There are three new movies out in our theaters on Wednesday in time for Thanksgiving - Although we really only need to talk about one and that's the new George Clooney movie, The Fantastic Mr Fox. Mr Clooney is lending his voice to Mr Fox who after years of being a family man goes back to his old ways of stealing chickens. Sounds like kids will love it! (And there's probably a moral to the story they will learn from too). I don't think the other two new movies will stand a chance against that, but in case you're interested, Old Dogs starring John Travolta and Robin Williams is the first one. It's the story of two unlikely men, one a bachelor, the other a divorcee, who suddenly find themselves taking care of 7 year old twins. The other new movie is Ninja Assassin. I think the title says it all there. You can catch these movies at the Coral Ridge Mall Cinema in Coralville and the Sycamore Mall Theatre in Iowa City.
The Mill, Iowa City's best live entertainment venue, as voted in the Press Citizen's Best of the Area List has as usual a fun evening lined up Wednesday. Is closed Thursday for Thanksgiving and then has it's usual fun packed weekend right after that. You can't beat The Mill for entertainment any day of the week.
Now if you want to visit a great sports bar not in Iowa City we have Flannigans Sports Bar & Grill in Coralville. It's in the same building as the Iowa River Power Restaurant and serves excellent food and as a sports bar of course has plenty of screens to keep sports fans happy.
That's about it for this week. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
