IF FOLKS ARE GOING TO TRY TO SELL SOMETHING TO ME, GIVE ME A FREAKIN' PHONE NUMBER

O.K.  A new system was introduced to me by a fellow ActiveRain member.  I'm not one for widgets, gadgets, etc.  I'm simple minded and my Internet network of web sites reflects that mindset.  I want speed, not spiff.  Yet, I'm also always interested in a system or site that will help me stay organized.  A review of a new system to organize social network memberships got my attention this week.  So, I looked, and looked, and looked.

The web page left me with questions about the fees and the technical aspects of the service.  I HAD QUESTIONS THAT WERE NOT ANSWERED by the web site.  Yet, there is no phone number.  GEEZ.  Isn't it the first rule of good advertising on the Internet that your phone number always be in the footer?????

EXAMPLE:  Cost:  $27, or $47, or $97.

What is that supposed to mean???

  • $97 for a one time sign up?
  • $97 a month?
  • $97 a day?

For the time we spend trying to navigate this rinky-dink system or that rinky-dink system that promises but doesn't deliver after they've swallowed your money, it could be

$97 a minute.

Yet, there is no freakin' phone number.

I'm sick of being sucked into auto this and auto that that do not work and are confusing after spending money to join.

Unless and until a system is perfect (find one of them), if the system management has no contact number and no phone service, they are simply, IMO, black holes for our money.  Once you subscribe and the dang thing doesn't work, you can spend that 3 hours a day that they claim to save you just trying to get their system to work only to realize that you are at a dead end and there is no solution because there is no freeking phone number.

Thanks but no thanks.

I'm quite interested in having a management system for these social network accounts, but I'm not remotely interested in spending money for some system to burn.

I'm quite good at burning money for myself.

One of the reasons systems like ActiveRain and The Real Estate Shows are so successful and user friendly is because, if your own trouble shooting doesn't work, you can actually speak with someone.  For ActiveRain, there are thousands of members who will help other members by e-mail or phone.

That's right.  You can actually telephone Bob Stewart or Jeremy Blanton with ActiveRain and get an answer within a day.

That's right.  You can actually telephone Jeff Turner with The Real Estate Shows and he'll probably answer the phone.

I'll spend what I have to for good systems.  I'm one of the better spenders on this earth, certainly in this business.  However, I've put my foot down and am not spending another dime, no matter how well recommended, for a system or web service that has no phone service.

Until these systems or services are created entirely by robot and distributed entirely by robot, I want a telephone contact that will listen and engage in some problem solving.

Otherwise, we run the risk of our money being burned by a faceless, voiceless, careless system.

AND NO HELP AVAILABLE!!

Mark.  I agree.  Which is probably why I have so few gadgets and widgets on my web sites.

June.  I'm stubborn.  Of there is no phone number, I'm gone.

Lina.  I'm just exhusted from trying for 3 hours this a.m. to try to navigate two sites.  I just left and I'm through with them.

Jesse.  Of course.  I could have answered that, but I still had questions.

Brenda.  It was 5:00 a.m. this a.m.

Michael.  I'll just manage my own.  In fact, I don't spend that much time with sites other than ActiveRain anyway.

Paddy.  Agreed.

C.  Agreed and thanks.

If you can not easily contact them when you are trying to spend your money I think it might be even harder after they have it.

Lenn - I am more frugal in purchacing than I used to be. I'm with you that my money would only go to a place where I could talk to a human being. (and hopefully one without an accent)

Hi Lenn, I agree with you.  If I can't contact a human by phone, I won't be contacting them at all.  I like the fact that we can call our AR guys on the phone, too!  Oh, and I like the fact that I could call you, and appreciate the help you gave me this year.  Thanks, Lenn!  Happy Thanksgiving!

Scott.  Thanks.  You are right.

Claude.  I have no objection to folks with an accent , , , , , , as long as they are in this country.

Mary.  It was my pleasure and I'm always here to help anyone if I can.

Hey Lenn we all know you are great, but you are not psychic.  Neither am I!  Recantly, I was looking at a real estate website, and guess what?  No pricing?  No explanations etc.  I always move on if there is no detail... or if the information I need is not readily transparent... especially on the Internet.  I've gotten burned one too many times.

Lenn, It's very common these days to not be able to find a phone number on websites. It's also very frustrating. Our local association of Realtors web site is the same way you have to search for a number.

Jim.  I used to take the time to search for a number, but after seeing so many sites with no number, if it's not in the footer of the main page, I'm gone.

Bryant.  Same here.  I'm sure they don't want to hear from us anyway.

Dick and Dixie.  I made a point of mentioning The Real Estate Shows because they know what service is.

Lenn,

So often it is done on purpose. There is a thought that you have to interest someone to a point that he calls someone to get a price.

I would exhaust my option trying to find the price, but if I don't, I am not calling for the price and get a sales pitch. Just move to another site.

But then, we are all different, and when i do not call, someone calls, so they get their share of business, I guess

If you can't reach them when they're initially looking for your $, you know you'll never reach anyone down the road. Good call, Lenn, and a good reminder to us all!

I also agree that ActiveRain and Real Estate Shows deserve kudos for having real people answer!

Hi Lenn ! - Of course I agree with your post, and in a similar vein, I had a referral to give out of my area, and looked up the agents there on Active Rain as usual, but wouldnt you know that the first 3 agents in that area did NOT have a contact phone numberlisted ! Here on Active Rain ! they just had an email. Well I went to the fourth. She listed her cell. And she picked up the phone. She got the referral.

Happy Thanksgiving Lenn !

Hi Lenn... I'm with you 100% on this one.  As far as I am concerned, being able to speak with a live person is the number one requirement before I will even consider buying, subscribing to or joining ANYTHING.

Lenn, If they don't give a phone number, wouldn't that mean they really don't want to talk with you? If they don't want to give customer service, you shouldn't give them your money, seems pretty clear cut to me.

Lenn: Hope you had a great thanksgiving.  This blog touches on a misguided approach to lead generation.  There are many, including real estate agents who does this, trying to get people to sign up for their product or service, so they can feel some level of control.  It is so prevalent, I often just move to the next site.  Not giving a phone number though, seems to be the most ridiculous thing they can do.

Those types of sites are disappointing. They are telling you up front that they dont want to bother with you, just send a check.

I signed up for a PR site.

They sent my pw out in a google alert.

Have tried to call them for months, always busy.

Every month  a charge on my cc.

I got a new number on my cc.

ha betcha they try to call me now.

I googled them a big office in Florida, but always busy. What a rip off, lesson learned.

I came across a Realtor a couple of days ago who had three phone numbers listed. All three phone numbers were "disconnected or no longer in service." This was a listing agent!
