As part of NAR's recent Resort Symposium, many of us had the opportunity to tour several luxury homes. Five busses unleashed real estate agents to tour luxury homes in the Vail Valley of Colorado, ranging from $6 million to $25 million. This tour was not for the faint of heart. At high altitudes, we still had to show our endurance as we walked up and down roads and driveways beyond where the busses could go, and as we climbed stairs in the multi-level residences.

The first thing we noticed was that most of these homes did not have air conditioning! Heresy for Floridians. We were surprised that these wealthy homeowners didn't insist on A/C, just for the few nights of discomfort they might have. This is one topic to be covered in the introductory interview, setting proper expectations.

We were also impressed by the beautiful wood in some of the homes. Cabinetry was often done in alder or knotty alder, and floors and cabinetry might be in hickory. Some of the finishes just glowed!

Our impressions of the homes didn't correlate directly to prices, which emphasize the need to be represented by a local Realtor who not only knows the neighborhood differences, but the regional differences - proximity to ski lifts, ski-in-ski-out homes, etc.

Sharon, that must have been a trip worth taking, altitude aside.  I can't imagine what a $25 million dollar home looks like (or what those views must have been!!).  I would love to see a picture or two if you have any....and I'm sure your breath was taken away (in more ways then one :)

Carol - it was a huge ski-in-ski-out home on Beaver Creek. I didn't take any photos, but will scan the tour list and e-mail you directly after I get home.

Chris - it was a great tour and very informative. Would have liked to have you along with us!
