The Supreme Court's swipe at the Sherman Anti-Trust Act: What does this bode for Realtors?

So the Supreme Court says it is OK for manufacturers to set retail prices?

And this will lead to further advances in competition?

And it will benefit the consumer?

Some bewonderments about this development:

We have become accustomed to retailers setting their own prices for products on their shelves.  Lower prices to benefit all.  Now, according to the NY Times the Supremes say, "...the new rule could in some instances lead to more competition and better service."

Will the Department of Justice continue to hammer away obsessively at nonexistent NAR monopolistic practices, like Inspector Javert pursuing Valjean in Les Miserables?

Or, will a similar legal philosophy relieve NAR of some pointless persecution from the Justice Departmment?

Interesting Court decision, I believe.  And I'm watching for future developments.

It's about time. This law was so antiquated. I'm glad to see the Supreme Court do something right for a change.

Mike, I had not heard a thing about this.  I guess too busy hearing about England & Scotland.  It will be interesting to see what affect this has.

Yes, it will be interesting.  Thanks.

Marchel,

Truthfully, I do not see any real change on the horizon, but thanks for reading and commenting.

Hi, Mike - Interesting read on the ruling.  I can see how it might be argued that real estate commissions are no different than retail prices on a can of beans.  But that might be too simple for anyone outside our industry to grasp.

Margaret,

Thanks for commenting.

Yes, making it simple is not necessarily the path to simplicity...
