Being a Class Act never goes out of style!  I just found out that Donny Osmond won Dancing with The Stars.  I wasn't actually watching, but when I saw the last few minutes of the show taped from yesterday, it made a lot of sense.  What I was thinking was that he has a fantastic support base, even outside of the large extended Osmond family.

First, Donny has had a long career and is known and loved by millions.  Second, he handled himself like a pro even after they announced he won, by hugging the runner-up when they were trying to hand him the winners trophy.  Lastly, he was positive throughout the competition, never cutting down the other dancers.

So, even though we are not in a dancing competition, what can we take away from this?  One of the first things I learned at an IBM Marketing class was never disparage the competition, it makes you look bad.  So, when I meet iwth new prospective clients, I try to highlight my best skills and say nothing about others, that isn't positive as well.  In fact, one time I told a prospective client that both myself and the other agent he was considering of hiring were excellent and he couldn't go wrong with either of us.  (I knew her and respected her work, of course!)

There are a good number of situations throughout the real estate cycle where we can take the high road and handle ourselves with class.  Also, even when negotiating a deal, I try to keep it win-win for all parties and pleasant with agents even if we don't strike a deal.  There's a number of times when the negotiation doesn't work out until a later date and keeping the conversation open and friendly helps the future conversations and deals come together.

I truly believe doing the best for your clients, building good will and treating all of the other professionals you meet every day well, will come back to help you build your business.  Being a Class Act never goes out of style.

Donny won on popularity.  Mya or Mia was a much better dancer throughout the whole competition

I am glad for Donny - never watched it but I am still happy for him - better than Tom Delay! But Russ, I can't believe you know that much about the competitors that you had an opinion! Thanks for sharing!

Did not see Donny's perform, --- I do agree being a class act never goes out of style.

Very often the best dancer does not win on 'Dancing with the Stars'.  So, what can we learn from that?  It seems that being friendly, trying hard, overcoming obstacles are all things that the masses can relate to and with.  Most folks cannot relate to the near-perfection of Mya, but can relate to a 50-yr old man who worked his tail off, made mistakes and kept on trying his best.  And didn't take himself too seriously.

Michelle,

I agree with being a class act. I personally never diss another realtor.

Oh, Michelle, that is SO true!  It's so much easier than being vindictive and so competitive that it's unhealthy.  And, you're right, Donny Osmond IS a class act--great analogy!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving...

I also do not watch that show but it does always seem that the "class acts" seem to win.   So this is a perfect analogy.  Always the smart move to never belittle anyone else.

Russ,  She seemed like an awesome dancer, so not to take anything away from Mya.

Lisa, I was glad for Donny too!  My sister even had purple socks to dance around in, so he's a soft spot in my family history.

Lorraine & Loreta, Always makes life more pleasant!

Chris, So true!  Hard work is always appreciated.

Terry, This works for me!

Debe, Yes, we can succeed by being positive!

Debra, Glad you like the analogy.

Have a great Thanksgiving all!  Michelle

Being a Class Act never goes out of style.  I would like to echo that!

I missed that final night (working ) but enjoyed that few times that I peeked in on the show this session.  Donny was always bubbling!

I think his whole family is a class act. Good for him that he won.

Charles, I agree, very impressive family who are all a class act, even after years in show business.  Now, that's a family accomplishment.  Michelle
