National Museum of the Marine CorpYesterday while the big bird was cooking, we went over to the National Museum of the Marine Corp.

The museum is located about 10 minutes from my relatives house in Stafford, off Jefferson Davis Highway. Wow what a fabulous museum.

I have a bunch of photos on flickr if you want to see a lot of them.

It is built like the flag raisers of the Iwo Jima.

I am so glad I took the time to visit the National Museum of the Marine Corp.

My husband was a Marine during the Viet Nam era. But, he played on the Marine Corp football team so didn't go to Viet Nam. His brother Mark was in Viet Nam.

Missy - My father served in Vietnam with the Marines. He was a helicopter gunner. For years, he didn't talk much about it, but over the past few years, he's been visiting with his old buddies and telling me more and more stories.  It's an amazing oral history that I've been learning.  Recently, it was determined that he was exposed to Agent Orange during the war (they used to spray it from their helicopter - they didn't know what they were spraying).  I (obviously) hope my dad's ok from the exposure (he's going in for a battery of tests), but it's been a fascinating story between us lately.  Thanks for the blog about the Musuem.

Thanks for sharing this information, Missy.  I was not familiar with this museum, but I am now!  The Marines have quite a proud tradition of defending our country.  Love the pic of the Corsair fighter plane!

The expression on that soldier's face is absolutely haunting. That represents someone's son. I'm gonna keep that with me today and hug my little guys BIG time when they get home from school today...and be thankful for the bravery and sacrifice of all of our soldiers and their families.  Thanks for sharing, Missy.

Missy, I will have to go and check out your Flicker photos.  The museum sounds beautiful but very sad at the same time.  I am always grateful for the services of our men and women but never more so then when I visit one of these incredible places.

Hi Missy,

Great museum! It is so important to preserve evidence of important historicevents for future generations.  Sometimes, people think that war stories are just legents and events never took place.

Good stuff. I'm with you, if you value your freedom in this nation, thank a soldier. My father served in both WW2 and Korea. Like Matt also said, he seldom spoke of it. We can only imagine what he saw over there. I remember as a child, 20 years after he came home, that if you woke him up from sleeping he'd wake up violently, as if a bayonet might be in his face. We owe these guys a debt of gratitude.

So many of my friends are former Marines so I would love to go to this museum myself. Instead I was on the treadmill. ;-(

When you're in uncomfortable position and have no money to go out from that point, you would have to take the home loans. Because it will aid you emphatically. I get short term loan every time I need and feel good because of this.
