Thanksgiving morning, San Jose, CA

Thanksgiving Day -- family, food, fun. Time to reflect on our bounties. Time to share with others.

Participating in the 5th annual Silicon Valley Turkey Trot was a wonderful way to start the day. To date, this event has raised over $750,000 for charities, including the Santa Clara County Family Health Foundation, the Housing Trust of Santa Clara County, and Second Harvest Food Bank. 9500 participants were expected this year (our bibb numbers were 10,732 & 10,733), so the funds will increase.

How wonderful to be able to share a beautiful day, in a lovely city, in the company of happy, generous people.

Lottie, in the town where I grew up, Turkey Trots were common.  Where I currently live, you have to travel closer to Boston to participate in a Turkey Trot.  They are wonderful community events.

Sounds like a great way to start Thanksgiving! Hope you enjoyed the rest of the day, as well. All the best for the upcoming holidays, too.

Hi Deena and Kathy -- thanks for your notes. Community events are great -- here's a snippet about the end results from the SV Turkey Trot web site (bolding is mine):

"We are thankful to the 11,000 people who registered for this year's Applied Materials "Silicon Valley Turkey Trot" on Thanksgiving morning!  The tremendous support of all who participated, including the 650 dedicated community volunteers, allow us to make a significant impact in providing health, hope and a home to those in need in our community.  Thanks to your generosity, we believe we will be able to donate nearly $300,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank, the Housing Trust of Santa Clara County, and the Children's Health Initiative.
We feel blessed to live and work in a community so willing to give!"

Have an awesome day!

Al and Peggy - it was a great kick off to a good day. LOVE your Santa hats.

And Steve--you're in the spirit, too. (I think you wrote a blog about adding holiday cheer to our AR pics, right? Really cute--I'm enjoying them.
