DON'T REPEAT PAST MISTAKES IN BUYING A HOME

Goodness, we are already done with Thanksgiving, the food is already a left over,  and I have not even had one piece of pumpkin pie.  That shows you how fast time flys; it seemed just yesterday that I was celebrating the 4th of July.

Good things always seems to come and go pretty fast, however bad things seem to linger on forever.  Many things we did this past year is still haunting us - yes, even real estate agents have bad days too.  Here are a few things we should remember going in 2010.

Homeowners/Buyers

  1. Never bite off more than you can chew - never, never let anyone talk you into spending more than you know you can afford
  2. Never use your home as a checking account to purchase vacations, cars or shopping sprees - use you equity line of credit for real emergencies
  3. Never believe those wonderful low teaser rates won't come back to bite you
  4. Never quit claim your deed to anyone without consulting an Attorney; especially if you are still on the note to your mortgage holder
  5. Work with a reputable mortgage and real estate professional who holds your best interest in high regard

Novice Investors

  1. Buying several homes does not necessarily makes you an investor - it may make you just a landlord, make sure you know about the rules and regulations of being a landlord.  Poor treatment of your renters can lead to vacancies, that could lead to foreclosures in the end - if you are not careful
  2. Take courses on how to invest in real estate for profit
  3. Make sure you use a real estate professional when purchasing property - it helps to have an expert as part of your team
  4. There are still great deals to be found, many homeowners will welcome a good offer from an investor, they need you as much as you need them

Real Estate Agents

I would say all in all, I am finding that REALTORS, REALTIST are still good people, who actually care about their clients.  Many of us got into, and stay in the business to help people realize the home ownership dream.  I can honestly say, it isn't about the money because most of us who are still in the business are not raking in a salary that folks dream of.  We are in the business for the right reason, the real reason, OUR CLIENTS!

To not make the same mistakes of 2007-08-09; let's concentrate on what is important in our industry -

  1. Being a person of knowledge
  2. Being a person of integrity
  3. Being a person of honesty
  4. Being a professional
  5. Putting the client first
  6. Practicing the fiduciary we pledged to uphold

As I look over the left overs I am thankful for all that has been provided for me and my family, I am thankful to still serve as a real estate professional for the almost 14 years and counting.

If you are looking to purchase real estate, don't hesitate to let me put you first.
