Sonoma County Wine Country, California - Cycling through the Fall Colors

Cycling in Sonoma County - Fall Colors

Cycling in Sonoma County is one of the best ways to experience the Wine Country's beautiful countryside. I love going for a nice 25 bike ride in the morning. If I'm really into it, I'll lose myself on a 50 miler through Santa Rosa, Windsor, Healdsburg, Napa, Sonoma, Petaluma or Sebastopol. Cycling is my favorite form of exercise and a great stress reliever. I wrote about this in one of my posts called Sonoma County Wine Country Top Ten Secret's Exposed.

This year, I got to enjoy the added bonus of having my family join in on the fun! Whenever we get a chance, my wife and I will hook up with my sister, her husband, my cousin, his wife and several friends who've recently taken up the sport. What a wonderful experience! Not only do I get to see our beautiful Wine Country, I also get to cycle with my loved ones!

Yesterday, a small group of us went out for a quick 25 jaunt in Sonoma County from Santa Rosa to Windsor town square. We headed west through Santa Rosa and then north to Windsor. We stopped at the local coffee shop in Windsor for a quick caffeine boost and hopped back on the road to head home before Thanksgiving dinner with the rest of the family. Needless to say, the several photo stops caused us to be a little late for our family visit and I got in a little trouble with my Mother! Nothing like having Mom lecture you as if you were a kid even when your in your 40's! LOL! But, that's fodor for another story.

I just couldn't help but notice the beautiful colors that surrounded us on our ride, so I pulled out my trusty partner, my canon powershot and took a couple pictures to share with everyone and anyone interested in seeing what Sonoma County looks like from a cyclist's point of view.

Cycling in Sonoma County - Hot Air Balloons over Valley

Low and behold, we also got to see a couple hot air balloons! It's amazing how they peacefully glide over the countryside.

As you can see from the pictures, this beautiful landscape is one of the reasons why I love living and cycling in the Wine Country in Sonoma County!

If anyone is visiting from out-of-town and would like a tour from a local point of view, I would be happy to take you, your family and your friends on a cycling adventure to see the wonderful area where I live. We can do it by car, but I would highly recommend renting a bike for the ultimate tour!

And if you decide to move here, I have several great real estate agents who would be happy to help you find a perfect home to buy! If fact, there are several wonderful Realtors here on Activerain!

BTW- I have several other pictures to share if you didn't see them. Here's a quick list:

A 25-mile bike ride in the morning? Sounds like you should be on the Tour de France! I did an 18-mile bike ride one time back in college. That was the first, last, and only.

Anthony,

One thing we miss here in the desert southwest is the color panoply of fall.  Thanks for blogging.

What a beautiful part of California! My brother lives in San Francisco and also cycles through wine country with his friends regularly. He also participates in the Aids Lifecycle every year; a 545 mile, 7 day trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles. He loves the ride and has made so many friends! Check it out! Sounds like your kinda ride!

Stephanie - thanks for dropping by! I've been thinking about a charity ride for next year. The Aids Lifecycle was on my list!
