"I'm at the house you have listed on X road, can we see it now?
I don't know if I'm a sucker for punishment or what, but I do my best to run out and show properties when this happens. Tonight I was headed home with my freshly made Stromboli when the phone rang. I pulled over because I was about to go into the one section of the Verizon "map" they are advertising on TV that isn't red. I think my house and some place in North Dakota are the only places without service.
I take the call, start talking about the house, and the lady sounds excited. In my head I'm thinking Son of a (edited for strong language) I really don't feel like driving back across town. I realize that it's my job to get this house sold so I tell them "Give me 15, and I'll meet you there."
The showing went okay, but more importantly I established a good relationship with the people. They have been looking for about 2 years they said. I don't know how in 2 years they haven't gotten a Realtor to work with full time. I went through the normal I'd like to work with you speech which seemingly went really well.
The showing feedback was good too, and the house hasn't been ruled out. All good things. So needless to say a trip across town was worth it. These people were straight forward and honest and just all around good people. They had just come from another meeting with a builder that didn't go so well. They wouldn't tell me where they were, but one guess (I was right) and we were discussing their displeasure.
My dad always says "you get paid for inconvenience so I hope this to be the case here, and I'm sure it will be.
