I'm at the House you have Listed - Can we see it now?

"I'm at the house you have listed on X road, can we see it now?

I don't know if I'm a sucker for punishment or what, but I do my best to run out and show properties when this happens.  Tonight I was headed home with my freshly made Stromboli when the phone rang.  I pulled over because I was about to go into the one section of the Verizon "map" they are advertising on TV that isn't red.  I think my house and some place in North Dakota are the only places without service.

I take the call, start talking about the house, and the lady sounds excited.  In my head I'm thinking Son of a (edited for strong language) I really don't feel like driving back across town.  I realize that it's my job to get this house sold so I tell them "Give me 15, and I'll meet you there."

The showing went okay, but more importantly I established a good relationship with the people.  They have been looking for about 2 years they said.  I don't know how in 2 years they haven't gotten a Realtor to work with full time.  I went through the normal I'd like to work with you speech which seemingly went really well.

The showing feedback was good too, and the house hasn't been ruled out.  All good things.  So needless to say a trip across town was worth it.  These people were straight forward and honest and just all around good people.  They had just come from another meeting with a builder that didn't go so well.  They wouldn't tell me where they were, but one guess (I was right) and we were discussing their displeasure.

My dad always says "you get paid for inconvenience so I hope this to be the case here, and I'm sure it will be.

Been therre...done that and have the T shirt.  I would probably have done the same but cannot think of a time that it has ever actually produced a sale.  Key word...two years of looking and still no full time Realtor.

GOOD LUCK!!!

You get paid for inconvenience? Wow....I am hoping for that million dollar call at dinner!!!

I always ask "Who is your Realtor?"....if they have one they always mention his or her name....if they don't then that drive across town was indeed worth it!

Regards

Rick

Hope you get a closing out of the experience.  I have done that myself.  Sometimes it is mixed emotions, some work out, others not so much.

David, I've discovered that you never get paid unless your name is on the P & S!  You have to do what it takes to feed the family.

Best of luck

Edward - I don't think there is much of a reason for it.  I just think they need someone to grab them and say here is the deal, your working with me lets get this done.  I gathered a lot from our conversation.  I also know the other realtors they have been in contact with.  Good realtors but personalities dont' always mesh.

Rick - I should have asked that....next time!

Andrew -  I was nearly at my house when they called so I dropped it in the oven on warm until I got back.

Jeani - I love closings =]

In our market Realtors are being warned away from this very practice after an agent was raped.  A sad reality of our business.  Sorry to be Debbie Downer.

Linda - uncalled for, but a sad reality. Rural Gettysburg is super safe, but I can see your concern.

David,  I hope that pays off for you in the future.  OK, so what is Stromboli?  I am thinking it must be some kind of pasta dish, maybe some reference to the volcano Stromboli in Italy?

Good job!  I have done that, not sold them that specific house, but did sell them another one.  It's just part of that wonderful game called "Real Estate".

David,

And your mother, who is also a Realtor would say, "No work, no pain, no pleasure!"  Great decision, my son!  Proud of you for making the right decision.  ;-) Mother.

Linda,

Since my son only knows how to cook his favorite (green beans, ham and potatoes, LOL, j/k) - I will tell you that "stromboli" is an Italian, dough wrapped usually meat and cheese filled delite...found in most Italian/pizza shops...I had it tonight as well... like mother like son, or like son like mother...We're good with either...

Linda,

Like David said, I raised him and his two sisters in Gettysburg, great place and great schools in a Gettysburg College town...it's a safe place...other than when its the 4th of July or Thanksgiving when there are re-inactments and lots of people who come to visit this quaint town...there are only about 28,000 residents unless the college students are there or if it is summer with tourists...it's not like a high populated place and David could kick butt if anyone came close to anything bad...He's an athlete and a  rock!
