Friday's Fotos - Take A Walk On The Wild Side

Oakville, Ontario, Bayshire Pond, Joshua Creek, Jenny Kotulak, photo

Wild flowers hold a simple beauty and can turn an empty field into a blaze of colour.  Unlike a planted garden, there is no design plan, fertilizer or irrigation required to make these plants grow tall and strong.

Colours will change with the seasons, but these sturdy specimens attract butterflies, birds and bees to the area.  These photos were taken at the height of the fall season in Oakville, Ontario.  Oakville offers many areas where you can enjoy walking through fields of wildflowers.

Steve is so right; spring time in Texas is ablaze with the fields of color but no more beautiful than those you, Jenny have captured in Oakville.

I already miss the wild flowers Jenny, so this post made me smile and remember that they will be back. You did a beautiful job putting them all together.

Of course, I'm sure you know that you can have a planted garden that doesn't require water, fertilizer, or a design design plan to be beautiful. We gardeners call it xeriscaping.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

Jenny - Enjoy all of the wildflowers and walks through the Oakville parks as long as possible until the cold snowy winter rolls in.  I enjoy all of your photos of the west end of the GTA.

Hi Haris - I use Google Picasa. I learned how to make the collage just recently when I saw Liz Moras using it.  I've always used Picasa and never noticed the collage option.

Hi Steve - I love seeing the flowers along the highways also.  Pretty soon ours may be covered with snow.  The highways that is.  The flowers are all dead now lol.

Aww thanks Gary - That's very nice of you to say.  The collage was fun to do.

Thanks Sandra - I'm so glad you could stop by.

Hi Jim - I'll send it to you and you can frame it for me o.k.?

Hi Dan - those were the days, eh?  I'm sure your mother loved pulling those burrs out of your socks.  I'm forever pulling them out of my dog's fur.  It sounds like you had lots of fun running free in the fields.

Thanks Michael - Nice to see you.

Hi Fred - Thank you sir.  Always a pleasure seeing you drop by.

Thanks Marlene - it was fun to do.  I would just press shuffle and it would re-arrange the photos until I liked the way it placed them.

Hi Jim - Thanks for stopping by.  I appreciate your thoughtful words.

Hi Gerry - Thanks, I couldn't find any moose to add to the collage though lol.

Hi Teral - I will be waiting to see your Texas wildflowers next spring.  Give me something to look forward to after the winter.

Thanks Mary - I was in this field the other day and it just doesn't look the same.  Even the two blue herons that hang out there are gone south.

Okay Russel, you got me.  That's a new word, I must go and look it up.  The only gardening I'm good at is container gardening.  Thanks for the info. P.S. Cats must love Thanksgiving leftovers.

Hi William - You betcha.  That field is like a feast to behold.  And it is close enough to my house to walk to.

Hi Marc - I've just found out in the past few months how much the Western GTA has to offer.  Who knew that there were 125 Waterfalls in the Hamilton area.  I've explored a few of them now so will keep checking them off.  I want to go back and see some in the winter.

Jenny, please just answer us one thing.  Can you tell us why the wild flowers with no attention as you described grow better than the ones in our garden?  Maybe its all our so called love and attention, are we killing it with kindness??? LOL!

Jenny - have you ever driven along the 401 and noticed the areas that are marked for "no cutting"  ... some are natural regeneration areas and some are large areas where they have intentionally reintroduced wild flowers to the boulevards.

Al & Peg, Wish I had an answer for you on that one.  I am no gardener myself. I stick to perennials and container gardening these days.

Hi Kathy - It is so nice to see some colour now along the highways.  You know how boring that drive along the 401 is.  Not a very scenic route.

Thanks Debi - great to see you pop by.

Hi Debra - I use the Google Picasa program to download my photos on.  You can do lots of neat editing stuff including making the collages.  I'm just finding my away around that part of it.

Hi Chris - Thanks for you kind words.
