Yesterday, when I posted part one of my blog "Crawl space horrors" I saw that there were lots of comments among non home inspectors about what we see down there. It seems there is an uneasy fascination with crawl spaces, like with horror movies -- fun to speculate and watch but do not send me down there. Realtors made comments about inspectors telling them of skeletal remains. I have seen cats, rats, raccoons, mice and a skunk in that state. Obviously the more skeletal, the better. It can be startling but you get jaded to it and I wear a respirator, so that helps. It was especially nice the time, two weeks back, when I found the house built in 1960 did not have the plumbing from the toilet discharge hooked up. I have a friend who found a boa in the crawl space in Seattle. I have a photo of that which we use in the class at Bellingham Technical College -- to let students know that there are surprises down below. There are often large spiders and, when we teach classes in Eastern Washington, we run into black widow spiders -- I have a collection. This photo below is from today. The tunnel, by which the rat entered the crawl space is nearby. So, in my theme this week of "taking you down" into the depths of depravity that we home inspectors see, I humbly submit this photo. My wife found it so disgusting that she told me I should delete it, but I thought I would share it as it is. It gives you a view of what many of you asked about yesterday. What do we see down below? If it grosses you out, I apologize up front but this is the sort of thing inspectors see daily. I put the photo a few spaces down, so you can read the post without seeing the skeleton. Your choice.

Welcome to my world, thanks for stopping by,
