Well....My Bags Are Packed...and I'm Ready to Go....

By
Real Estate Agent

Remember that?  Peter, Paul and Mary? John Denver?

This is the part I like the least about moving......The house is stripped....naked, brown boxes stacked everywhere, bare walls...nails poking out with no pictures to keep them company And I'm I'm not leaving on a Jet Plane.

The last time I cleaned behind my stove and fridge was, ummm I won't tell you - but I do know I 'm not the only one that has hidden treasures! I wonder are the new owners going to be as impressed when they see it empty and forelorn?

I move a lot - and yet this is one of the the few houses I've stayed in for longer then a year - 6 years to be exact - almost to the day.  My kids are gone - so it's a little lonely packing.  What should have taken a few days took a few weeks.  It's that darn sentimental stuff that gets in the way.

On the other hand it's an exciting thing for me to have a new house with empty rooms to decorate.  It's fun to have a fresh start.  Life is a lot like that too isn't it?  We can decorate our lives. Our presence shifts the energy in our surroundings.  .

I'm sitting thinking about what mood I want to create in this new house, in this new stage in my life. The way I decorate or furnish my home is just one way.  But the way I chose to speak to people, write to people will touch them and shift the energy more then anything else I can do.

Hopefully I'll express my deeper self - make my world more meaningful, beautiful and as welcoming as I make my home

Liz - Cleaned up, reenergized, new home to restart.

I remember when we talked about this and how you knew what your clients feel like, plus both sides of your emotions.

You wrote "Hopefully I'll express my deeper self - make my world more meaningful, beautiful and as welcoming as I make my home."

Here's my take on you, my friend.  Your deeper self is wonderful and beautiful and you have made many of our world's more meaningful and beautiful with your writing.  The stories you wrote about Jessie have touched hundreds (and I mean hundreds) who have read, commented and expressed their thanks to you for sharing.  Maybe I haven't passed this on, but there are comments from so many.

Thank you for your writing, your friendship.  And enjoy the new home.

@ Karen in # 11:  Karen... I really like your comment.  "Even when you leave a house, the "home" stays with you forever."  What a great thought.  I agree.  Most of the time... that's a great thing.  Sometimes, though, it hurts.

That would be very hard packing by yourself, Liz!  It is all the small things that we acquire over time that makes moving so difficult.  Should we keep it, pitch it, sell it, or give it away.  Boxes, boxes, boxes, for all our clutter and keep sakes.  Best wishes with your new home, Liz.

My Dear Liz, I hate that part too --when everything's packed up and it no longer resembles "home".  I wish you joy in your new home, and in your new journey onto another stage of life!  TA DA! You are the star on that new stage - by the way :-)

I dread the day, but I know, I'll be moving into my dream house in the Hill Country on the Guadalupe River in my backyard!  That will make the move a little easier for me.

Liz,

If you have an inspector coming in I sure hope that you do not have everything in the garage. I about broke my leg today trying to get around. This is the new thing. The garage is so full you cannot see the floor, the walls, the electric panel, the water heater or the furnace.

Steven - no we have our inspections before we start packing - and i don't put my boxes in the garage! lol.. Access to all those things including the crawl has to be readily available otherwise the inspectors won't inspect!

cindy- i'm not sure if you're talking about a one day dream or you're serious! lol

Liz, I wish you blessings and peace in your new home....and much laughter!  I think I love to start all over again and there is almost nothing more challanging then moving.  When you start placing your favorite objects up you'll know exactly what direction you want to take with the decor.  I think you'll have a lot of fun choosing every single thing that  you LOVE to surround yourself with.

Liz, I am so jealous!  I've been in the same house since about 1983, and there is so much crap around this place - attic, basement, extra closets and garage - that it's daunting.  You are smart to move often.

Liz,

My wife and I are trying to plan a Mexico vacation. That is enough hassle that I do not even want to think about the hassle of moving for real.

Carole - how sweet -usually i feel like that.....it's exactly where I wanted to live but I'm struggling a bit arrangiing stuff......mostly windows and doors and very few walls - it's challenging!  What does that mean? :-)

Patricia - that is the challenge isn't it.......when you don't moveyou just keep collecting and never really sorting.  I figure I got rid of at least 1/3 of all the stuff I had........but I could probably stand to lose another 1/3~ :-)
