The Kill Devil Hills board of commissioners has approved the first affordable housing complex for Kill Devil Hills. With the shortage of affordable housing for the local workforce this will help ease the strain on some working families. 15 units of the 20 units will be designated as "workforce housing."

The town will waive most of the fees to help the developer keep the costs down. The project will be monitored by the Dare County Community Development Corporation to ensure that compliance continues and that the affordable housing is not abused.
