Yes They had Pecans....Tales of a Southern Thanksgiving Trip

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Homes By Cross, Inc.

I spent my Thanksgiving at my brother's place in a sleepy town north of Charleston, S.C. called McClellanville. It's about a 4 hour ride from my home in Charlotte (or should I say... 1 stop for BBQ and one for gas... Bessingers BBQ kicks my grits on Q )

When we arrived I was greeted by my brother's dogs. ..two happy Black labs that craved my attention with circular motions beckoning a pat on the head. The place was set in harmony.

The pecan trees were shedding their bi-annual harvest of bounty. The pecans were everywhere... all over the ground....the children were picking them up with purpose.
Oysters were roasting on hot steel and turkeys were sizzling in the deep fryer. All foods were nicely prepared and beautifully displayed for a family affair. We were in high cotton (southern term). We were fortunate and yet gave pause in prayers to those in need. Then I thought ...Hey, we may be praying for me too! Our collective business has become increasingly difficult to make a living.

My post does not end on the good life. I write this as one of my good friends has fallen on hard times. It comes as a harsh reminder.
In spite of all we all can be , It happens .. But by the grace of GOD..there go I.

So in the spirit of the Holidays and family fun , take pause to remember that all is not well with everyone. Many have stress over the basics. If you can ..give. Give of your efforts, give of your spirit, and make your intention real.
Works for me. Bet it will work for you.  Personally, I reflect that I have limited hours left on the planet. I'm going to try and make them count.

Peace

There are unfortunately many out there that are having a very hard time. I feel for them and it makes me more grateful for my good fortune.

While we had a lovely Thanksgiving, my son-in-law's sister ended her battle with cancer last Saturday.  She was only 33.  I did not know her well, but as you can imagine it is very hard on their family.

Ann - Knowing that we all have an ending date, allows us compassion. Sorry for your son-in-law's family and your's. 33 is way too young.

BTW on a happy note .... snazzy earings :)
