As the year winds down....

As the year winds down we start looking forward to next year.  What can we improve on, what do we need to change to move forward.  So why do real estate agents find it so hard to make changes?  I don't have an answer.  But from personal experience I know it is a painful process to make changes.

An agent in today's market must be open to new ideas; new concepts; new approaches.  A year ago we were saying "Twitter - what the heck is that?"  Today we Tweet.  "Facebook? not us!  Today we check Facebook daily.  And here we are on ActiveRain.

These kinds of changes have been critical to the continued success of our business because that is what so many of our buyers and sellers are doing.   However, an agent always needs to remember that not all of their clients have computers or cell phones or do all that "new fangled" stuff.

One successful agent we know ran an ad in the local papers touting himself as a "dinosaur".  He does business the old fashioned way - in person or on the phone.  His target market was seniors - and he got some responses and eventually, some listings.

Much as our society has changed to conversing with electronic media we must never forget that there are still folks out there who don't have those tools.  And nothing can replace the "human element" that a good agent brings to the process.
