We moved to Mililani when I was 14 years old and a couple of years after this Master Planned Community started building. It is almost finished now after 35 years of "growing" ....including the Mauka side of Mililani which is across the H-2 freeway.

We have 7 recreation centers (5 of which have pools) tennis/basketball courts, 3 shopping centers with a 14 plex theater and MANY shops and restaurants. We have it all here in Central Oahu!

Picture to the left is taken from Mililani Mauka on 6/30/2007 looking to the Waianae Mountain Range.

This past Saturday afternoon (6/30/2007) we went to pick up my 25 year old daughter and 26 year old son (who relocated back home Dec. and Aug. of last year) to go to a steakhouse for a late lunch. They are both staying at my mom's 4 bedroom home in Mililani so I took pictures because she has just so many colors in just her yard alone!

Her home is situated at the very end of a cul-de-sac and in back of her house is just a gulley. I remember back in the 70's as a teenager I had gone down the gulley to take a "mini hike" and there were so many other kinds of plants and foilage; including bamboo and guava trees and lilikoi (passion fruit)! To this day I have not gone back down there as I realized later on there were most likely scorpions, centipedes and mongoose running around down there!

This is my old  neighborhood and up the street from mom's house.

Upon entering her gate we are greeted with these lovely purple flowers!

Back Yard-  Bird of Paradise                                            The Pink and Yellow Variety of Plumeria

Back yard foilage with white flowers.                                                      "Shrimp" Flowers

               Bouganvilia                                                                                                 Red Roses

Right fence line and gully straight down!                              Left fence line and thick foilage

This picture is going back out her gate. These palms were pruned about a year ago...and shooting straight up again! 20 ft. high and in middle of all this some rubber tree plants are going at it!

I tried to call mom to get the correct names of all the flower's but she wasn't home. In any case, I wanted to share with you all the beauty of mom's pride and joy...her garden and yard. When it comes to a green thumb...that my mom has!

Hope you enjoyed the pictures and a "tour" through mom's yard!

Beautiful pictures! We have 2 huge Bird of Paradise plants in our yard. I took a bunch of pics of my yard with the intention of blogging about it.  I just haven't gotten around to that idea yet :)

BB:  My mom's house is like a jungle....before my son got out of the Navy and my daughter separated from her husband...my hubbie and I would do the yard work...it got to be so much that I hired someone...now I think it's too much for all of us...so will hire again...we all don't have the time...and mom is wonderful to let the kid's invade her privacy yet again (she said we purposely bought a small townhouse...haha)

We have a lot of the same variety of trees ..such as the shrimp the roses. Are those lilacs? My grandmother used to grow them and we also had a large bush in NY..I used to cut them and bring them inot  the RE office I worked for back in the mid 90's and gave them to all the women. The whole place smelled of them. Same went for the roses here..I used to give them to my manager of my old company.

Sally, the pictures are beautiful!  I have never been to Hawaii and we don't have some of those plants here...or the mountains (where I am) for that matter.  I love seeing pictures, thank you for sharing these!

What a beautiful garden!  Thank for taking the time to share it with us... up here in NY, most of these plants won't even grow... we have a hard time finding things that are hardy in the winter months.

Marlene: Mmmmm....I did. :)

Mana:  I thought...gee, sure doesn't look that nice when we go and work back there in her yard...haha.

Jeff: Okay...thanks. I guess the only way you'll see in real life is to make the trip.

Randy:  I like the Mauka picture...looks so clear, clean and view of mountain range.

Suzanne: She has a huge one at the corner fence line. Randy is a nice guy.

Christina: Yeah, year round nice weather is hard on us...lol!
