Realtors® Please Stop with the New Listings!

I dont really see anything wrong with people posting their listings on here if they would like. You dont need to read them if you dont want to but it can be good exposure for the listing.

I so agree with you James.   I hate seeing them on AR, wrong place to post  a listing I think . Judging by the many comments above it's the consensus!!

Hi, James. I want to side with all the commenters who feel that Active Rain is the perfect place to post listings. I try to intersperse mine with Localism articles, to give my customers a feel for my area and a sense of who I am and what I do, and posts about Members Only issues that I feel strongly about but I can't understand why a realtor would not put this wonderful TOOL to good use!

Is AR just for real estate professionals to talk to other real estate professionals or is it supposed to serve a wider purpose?  If it is the former, then you are right.  Listings do not belong on AR.  If AR is creating a platform to reach out to the consumer, then listings are appropriate for posts. 

I do post my listings, but I put them on Localism and I check the box that asks "Is this a listing".  That's it.  I don't put my listings in any of the AR Groups.  We all know that is verboten. 

However, if my AR blog just consisted of Localism posts, AR members would be bored to tears, no one would comment on my posts, and AR would be a lonely place.  I try for a balance of Localism posts and AR community posts.  I don't aways achieve this balance because the Google juice from Localism posts is so compelling.

Sorry, but I love posting  my listing at AR, because of the exposure. We post listing for the consumers not for AR members, but we love their comments. There is so much to read at Active Rain, that don't have to read them.  My recommendation  to you is that should avoid them. Thanks

Using ActiveRain to post listings is working much better for me than just using the MLS.  You can get so much "google juice" with ActiveRain blogs.  Having another outlet to post listings in one of the reason I joined ActiveRain.

Very interesting...

Even as an investor I find the listings in the "blogs" section annoying and distracting.  I hate having to wade through them when I'm looking for character & content.  Especially when the vast majority of them are in areas in which I have little or no interest as an investor because they are 'geographically undesireable'.  I would have to spot an extremely good deal to jump into unfamiliar territory with the necessary investment of additional time & energy.  I would rather find an interesting realtor who displays a quality of character in their blog posts &/or comments and who is already familiar with that area so they can present me with the deal and all of the attendant, relevant data.

Why not just have a separate section just for listings?

I think it's an SEO move for these agents to post their listings. I am sometimes intrigued by what tools and methods they use to promote their listings to see if I can pick up any good marketing ideas for my area or my listings. Good Leadning Experience!

I read the featured from the newsletter and then go to groups.  I don't see a listing unless it's featured.

It makes perfect sense to post listings on AR, but why would anyone post them "members only"?

James....Just ran across this post.....I like you info...but I always post my listings to AR....I agree you should never do it to members only....I also think it's good to put a lot about the area in your post....so it's more that just about the one subject! You got a good run out of this post James, well done.  It would appear many people missed your point, but they did aggressively defend their rights to write about listings wherever and whenever they choose.  The google-juice for a listing is pretty solid, as you newest post shows, but I found for me personally the people I met here in the Rain became more important even than the SEO.
