FROG SEASON HAS ARRIVED

Missouri frogging season opened June 30 and runs thru Halloween, October 31.  Limits are eight bullfrogs or green frogs daily and 16 in possession.

In Missouri, frogs may be taken with either a hunting or a fishing permit.  With a hunting permit, you can take frogs with a pellet gun, longbow, crossbow, hand net or with your bare hands.

A fishing permit allows you to use your hands or a hand net, a gig, a longbow or hook and line.  Frog hunting is legal and most effective at night with an artificial light.

CONFUSING RULES   Frog Hunt

Midnight starts a new day, so froggers who begin a hunt with no frogs in possession (including home in the freezer) can take one limit of frogs between sunset and midnight, then bag another after midnight.  To do this legally, however, the first eight frogs must be kept separate from those taken after midnight?

Was it this confusing for Mark Twain?

The frogs should be happy with all the rain that has hit Missouri and Kansas lately.  Around here, we hear them for a while and then they disappear once their mud puddles dry up.  Of course, with the flooding rivers I saw recently in Kansas, the frogs would probably have been washed away!
