First of all let me tell you, GREAT CHOICE if you are moving  or planning on visiting here!

A bit about my background. I am a native Californian, but have lived all over the US and lived in and seen many countries. I lived in California, Arkansas, Georgia, Hawaii, Germany, and Japan before settling permanently in Texas. I have family in California, Nevada, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Texas, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New York and probably many more places! My ventures have brought me to numerous other states and countries where I have had the opportunity to experience many different lifestyles and cultures. That being said, Waco is my favorite place overall of them all. It is a great mixture of qualities that are very difficult to find.

Location-Almost right in the middle between Austin and Dallas. Just a few hours from San Antonio, Galveston, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. If it's not in Waco, its just a short drive away!

Small Town Atmosphere-People are so friendly in Waco, I have honestly met some of the nicest people ever here. There is a real sense of community in Waco.

Weather-If you like nice sunny days and warm weather, this is a great location. I grew up in the desert and prefer the warmer climate.

Traffic-Out of all the places I've been, this is probably one of the most relaxed driving atmospheres I have experienced. Waco is growing, but overall, traffic is just not an issue. You can get anywhere around the Waco area in around 20 minutes or less.

Education-There are plenty of good schools in the K-12 grades as well as Baylor University, McLennan Community College, and Texas State Technical College.

Shopping-Just about any store you need is within a short drive. If you need something that is not in the area, it may be coming soon or you just take a short drive to one of the bigger cities.

Dining-Many great restaurant chains and local establishments. Texmex is abundant. Looking for a chain that is not in Waco, just like shopping, it might be coming soon or it's just a short drive away.

Health Care-Two hospitals are located in our area, Hillcrest and Providence as well as Scott and White Clinics and numerous others.

Recreation and Museums-Lake Waco, Cameron Park, Cameron Park Zoo, Waco Water Park, Brazos River, Texas Rangers Museum, Dr. Pepper Museum, Mayborn Museum to name a few.

Visit the Waco Chamber of Commerce or Waco Tourism Site for even more great information on Waco!

I'm a Baylor grad and have many fond memories of Waco. My husband and I have a trip planned to Dallas in Sept and I am hoping to bring him to Waco and show him around.

Melissa-Thanks for the comment. I hope you and your husband enjoy your trip to Dallas and Waco. If you haven't been in awhile, things are changing a bit, especially around I-35 and the Loop.  Feel free to look me up if you do come this way.  Wendy

It has been a while. I graduated in 1992 and was last back in 2000. There had been a lot of changes just in that time frame. I'm sure that there have been many more. Hopefully some things haven't change, the circle and the Elite for instance.

I came across your blog and I wanted to compliment you on it.  I like the history you gave of all the places you lived. It gives people a good perspective to draw from.

I also like the way you laid out all the important things that people want to know before moving somewhere. You gave me some ideas for my Wellington FLorida blog and lens.

Thanks

I am considering relocation to Waco from AR in the very near future.  I would use you for relocation because I see you cherish animals and advocate for adoption of pets!  Nice touch to your web site

Hi Michele,

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment on my blog.  If you do decide to move to Waco, I am more than happy to help.  I do love pets and absolutely love my dogs like family. Thanks for the compliment.

By the way, I lived in AR back in the 80's while stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base. Very pretty state.
