Last week we had a great game between Enterprise HS of Redding and Paradise HS of Paradise, Ca, near Chico.

It came down to the final minute: Enterprise won, and Paradise disputed the victory.

Just today, the Record Searchlight gave us the background to the appeal and the final decision, and here it is. Well done.

The ruling off the field stands as well: Enterprise High School is the 2009 Northern Section Division I football champions.

Section commissioner Liz Kyle on Wednesday denied an appeal from Paradise High School concerning the Hornets' 26-23 win over the Bobcats last Wednesday.

"There is no provision anywhere to allow and appeal of a ruling on the field of the outcome of a final contest after the game has concluded. Once the officials leave the playing field, the contest is over and the results stand," Kyle wrote in the one-page release.

She cited Rule 1, Section1 , Article 11 of the National Federation of High School (NFHS) football rules, which states "Protests of NFHS rules are not recognized."

The controversy arose after the Bobcats blocked a fourth-down, game-tying field goal attempt by Enterprise with 45 seconds left in the section title game.

After the block, Enterprise holder James Williams corralled the ball and ran left - toward the Paradise sidelines - before throwing an incomplete pass. After the ball had been blocked, but before the played ended, several excited Paradise players ran on to the field in premature celebration.

The missive from Kyle and the section office puts to rest the outcome of the game and the remote potential of having to replay the final 45 seconds of the contest
