The City of Corona has posted on their website an alert regarding a scam. People across the county have received a letter in the mail claiming to be from City of Corona. This letter is also has a fake City of Corona check attached. This letter and check leads the recipient to believe that they have won a cash prize from the "Fortune 500 Prize Pool". The letter requires the recipient of the cash prize to send a small cash payment to insure the delivery of the large cash prize.

The City of Corona says that these checks and letters are fake and part of a nationwide scam. Please do not respond or act on any representations in the letter. The Corona Police Department is aware of this scam and these fictitious checks will not be honored if presented for payment. If you receive this letter, please contact your local police department and your local postmaster.
