Preparing for Winter

By
Real Estate Agent with Century 21 New Millennium

As the temperatures begin to plumet it's time to start thinking about preparing your home for winter temperatures.  After all we don't want a pipe to burst and ruin everything or the heat to not work when it's freezing outside.   So much easier to prepare than deal with the consequences later.

Here's a list of a few items to think about:

  1. Hire an individual to come out and inspect the HVAC and possibly clean it.
  2. Disconnect all outside hoses and turn off exterior water (Make sure the outside connection is drained)
  3. Have sprinkler systems drained and blown out.
  4. Hire a chimney sweep to clean and inspect fireplace.
  5. Inspect doors and windows and add weather stripping or caulking where needed.
  6. Put winterization fertilizer on lawn
  7. Remove screens from windows and doors
  8. Store Outdoor Patio Furniture
  9. Put Ice Scrapers and Shovels in the Cars
  10. Inspect Roof for any missing or sagging shingles.
