You would think that Sunday, December 6, 2009 was the day that all of Bristow was going up in a five alarm blaze.  Not to worry, it was only the Nokesville Volunteer Fire Department doing their annual Santa drive-by in a fire truck.  A fire truck whose sirens were screaming and wailing the same noises it makes on the way to emergencies...only during the Santa drive-by, the fire truck creeps down residential streets of communities like Braemar at no more than 10 miles per hour.

ADVIL ANYONE?

I'm not a scrooge by any means.  I love the fact the Nokesville Volunteer Fire Department is in the holiday spirit and brings joy to the youngest residents of Braemar and other Bristow neighborhoods.  What I don't see as "holiday spirit" is the wailing sirens that conjure up that gut wrenching feeling, as it gets ever closer, that someone you may know could be losing their home to a fire.

I think the Nokesville Volunteer Fire Department could improve their Santa drive-by with a very simple change.  Use a public announcement system, or some other audio equipment, to play Christmas carols as Santa drives by our Braemar homes at that 10 miles per hour.   Santa could even say his ultimate catch phrase as he is paraded though Bristow.   "Ho, ho, ho!  Merry Christmas!"  Residents would no longer have that feeling of doom in their stomachs as the fire truck rolls through in full on, audio emergency mode.

If the Nokesville Volunteer Fire Department can't see the value in tweaking this one aspect of their Santa drive-by, then don't panic on the first or second weekend next December when the non-stop sirens start.    It's probably just Santa sitting atop Engine 25.

I like the loudspeaker and Christmas Carol idea...kinda like the Blues Brothers' mobile! The sirens make the dogs crazy, too...

Lisa:  Yes.  The dogs were going nuts in the neighborhood and my cats were hiding under beds.  The outdoor cat was in the rain sewer all day.
